About The Position

WaterConnect LLC is a project development company focused on creating investment opportunities in water supply and sanitation (WSS) infrastructure in low- and middle-income countries. They provide early-stage financing and technical expertise to local partners to develop new infrastructure and deploy technology that addresses water access, quality, and scarcity. WaterConnect collaborates with various industry partners to bring projects from concept to financial close. The company offers project development funding and expertise, particularly in legal and financial structuring, capital raising, and social and environmental impact. WaterConnect aims to develop both public-private partnership projects for municipal infrastructure and private industrial projects. The organization works closely with Water.org and WaterEquity, which offer complementary financial products. WaterConnect, established in 2024 as a spin-off from Water.org, is dedicated to accelerating investment in water supply and sanitation to achieve UN Sustainable Development Goal 6. The Finance and Accounting Manager will oversee internal financial operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant management of finances, including treasury, accounting, and reporting for this mission-driven organization. This role is crucial for maintaining the financial integrity that supports WaterConnect's mission and offers significant visibility and growth opportunities within a fast-growing startup environment backed by a larger global group.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5 or more years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles, including treasury, financial reporting, and the accounting close process
  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, CMA, CA, ACCA) or equivalent demonstrated expertise
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and/or IFRS, with experience supporting multi-entity or parent-subsidiary consolidation
  • Experience managing banking relationships, treasury operations, and liquidity or cash management
  • Experience working with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies; familiarity with international tax compliance considerations
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and enforce sound accounting procedures and internal controls
  • Proficiency with accounting software or ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a small, virtual team in a hands-on role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across global, multicultural teams
  • Demonstrated commitment to social and environmental impact
  • Proficient (written and verbal) in English
  • Candidates must be based in the Eastern or Central time zone to ensure real-time overlap with the President and Water.org’s finance team during core business hours.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee bank accounts and payments to vendors, projects, intercompanies, payroll, and reimbursements
  • Oversee liquidity management and reserve balances, including cash flow monitoring and forecasting
  • Manage relationships with banking partners, auditors, and tax advisors
  • Prepare and deliver financial reports and forecasts for management, the parent company, and governing bodies
  • Oversee accounting, including day-to-day and period-end closing processes, in partnership with a third-party accounting provider
  • Establish and enforce proper finance and accounting procedures and controls, including capitalization of project expenses
  • Lead aspects of finance department collaboration with the parent company, including consolidation
  • Prepare annual tax filings and ensure compliance with applicable accounting and tax regulations
  • Support the annual external audit process and respond to auditor requests
  • Monitor and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances to support accurate consolidation
