About The Position

The Fifth Third Bank Leadership Program (LP) Internship is designed to provide students with exposure to a variety of banking disciplines, while building meaningful work experience through assignments within one line of business or division. The LP internship experience consists primarily of on-the-job training supplemented by networking opportunities, educational offerings and performance coaching and feedback. The intern is integrated into the groups day-to-day activities and projects. Operates as a team member on larger initiatives but also works independently on smaller projects. Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types. The Finance and Accounting Internship Program offers distinct tracks in either finance or accounting, building skills and experience in financial concepts, building critical thinking skills and business acumen. Participants will have guided early-career development through guided and self-directed learning and training activities. Interns will develop problem-solving abilities and learn to clearly communicate in a financial environment while drawing data-driven conclusions. You’ll work on projects for Fifth Third Bank, receiving feedback and an evaluation based on accuracy, completeness, and through meeting applicable deadlines. You’ll also have an opportunity to receive mentoring from industry professionals, have exposure to executive leadership and participate in social and networking activities. At the conclusion of the internship, you’ll present your overall experience to the senior leadership team, including key concepts learned and an overview of each project.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing an Accounting degree.
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Must be a rising senior
  • Basic Excel proficiency (data entry, formatting, charts, basic formulas, Vlookup)
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future

Nice To Haves

  • Campus involvement/leadership experience preferred
  • Relevant internship/co-op experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Complete special projects at the direction of Assignment Leader.
  • Build, analyze and distribute monthly and quarterly financial reporting.
  • Provide analysis for monthly forecasting process for the business.
  • Support the annual budgeting process.
  • Perform financial variance analysis to identify trends in the business.
  • Accurately maintain accounting records and perform all related accounting functions.
  • Prepare daily entries while overseeing preparation of other entries.
  • Monitor accounts and maintain account balances.
  • Facilitate compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
