Finance Analyst - 36-month Rotation Program - Chantilly, VA
About The Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems is hiring an entry-level Finance Analyst for a 36-month rotation program. Participants build relationships with senior finance leaders and complete three developmental rotations over 36 months across Internal Controls, Financial Reporting, Financial Planning & Analysis, Business Analysis, and Rates and Billing. The role supports the organization’s financial performance and profitability through financial analysis, reporting, planning, internal controls, audit work, cost analysis, and billing. The position is on-site in Chantilly, Virginia, though the posting also includes the tag “#LI-Hybrid.” Travel of 10% is required. Applicants must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance after hire, and U.S. citizenship is required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent experience.
- General knowledge of internal general ledger accounting, rates and compliance, and billing functions.
- General knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- General knowledge of Power BI and a foundational understanding of artificial intelligence concepts and their applications in financial analysis.
- Developing analytical skills, including the ability to analyze data and reconcile financial accounts.
- General knowledge of General Dynamics systems and policies, government accounting, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, and Earned Value Management System.
- General knowledge of revenue recognition concepts and accounting for government contracts.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Team process skills and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to travel 10% of the time.
- Must be capable of obtaining a U.S. security clearance; ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret clearance after hire is required.
- U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities
- Provide complete financial analysis support and control.
- Prepare and review balance sheet and profit-and-loss data for senior management.
- Assist with development of the company operating plan and forecast updates.
- Monitor actual results against plans and forecasts and identify variances.
- Prepare and present summary financial status reports to management and customers.
- Perform month-end and quarter-end close activities.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting requirements to the GD Corporate office.
- Examine and evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls.
- Perform assigned audits in accordance with the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, including fieldwork testing, preparing work papers, and reporting audit findings and recommendations for process improvements to management.
- Conduct entrance and exit conferences for audits.
- Update desk manuals, policies, and procedures to improve internal controls and compliance systems.
- Analyze actual department costs and rate performance, and research charges to help control costs and meet budget targets.
- Prepare firm-fixed-price, cost-plus, and commercial invoices.
- Monitor and track accounts receivable.
- Review, track, and maintain billing information in compliance with U.S. GAAP and other accounting regulations.
