About The Position

We are currently seeking Accounting Students to join North American Construction Group's (NACG) finance team for either an eight-month contract term or a twelve-month contract term. In this role, you will rotate through various functions within the finance department, gaining exposure to month-end and year-end closing activities, open PO analysis, cost accruals, account reconciliations, vendor reconciliations, and results analysis. The position involves assisting in the preparation of working papers, public financial documents, and interacting with internal management and external auditors during year-end activities. NACG's financial statements are publicly listed, prepared in accordance with United States generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP), and traded on the New York Stock Exchange and the Toronto Stock Exchange. Additionally, NACG is a CPA Alberta Pre-Approved Program for practical experience. This position is based at our Head Office in Acheson, located 10 minutes outside the west end of Edmonton.

Requirements

  • Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce or Business Administration (Accounting or Finance major preferred).
  • Working towards all necessary prerequisites for admission into the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Professional Education Program (PEP).
  • Possess a solid understanding of accounting concepts.
  • Displays solid problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Has excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong computer literacy, including effective working skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • High energy level, with demonstrated ability to work independently and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous accounting-related office experience is an asset.
  • Customer service and/or client service experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned monthly, quarterly and annual accounting period closing activities in accordance with NACG Financial Statement Close and Reporting Policy, United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and appropriate procedures.
  • Prepare audit working paper files and communicate with Finance team members and auditors during year-end audits and quarter-end reviews.
  • Assist with the preparation of aspects of the consolidated financial statements and other public financial documents.
  • Work with Corporate and Divisional Finance teams to reconcile and analyze the company's consolidated balance sheet.
  • Prepare, analyze, and report financial information relating to revenue and costs.
  • Provide complete, accurate, timely and effective analysis and reporting.
  • Research and respond to queries on financial matters.
  • Coordinate efforts with accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll to resolve project related issues as they arise.
  • Prepare and/or assist in ad hoc and routine analysis and reporting of transactions for Finance department management.
  • Actively participate in department initiatives.
