About The Position

This is a lump sum position for a Medical Counselor for Week 1 of a camp. The role involves distributing and logging medicines, being responsible for the first aid kit, engaging campers enthusiastically, ensuring a positive camper experience, and answering questions about attending UWSP. Counselors will also complete required hiring paperwork and trainings, follow UWSP Residence Hall rules, enforce camp rules, maintain camper head counts, escort campers, assist instructors, help maintain a safe and positive camp experience, work collaboratively with staff, and act as a role model. Additionally, counselors will demonstrate a prevention mindset for camper safety and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Pass a Criminal Background Check with Position of Trust for Vulnerable Populations and Misconduct Reference Check.
  • Complete any required trainings for youth policy.
  • Excellent organization, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and team oriented.
  • Complete UWSP Housing training prior to the start of camp.
  • Remain calm and assist campers during any potential emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with and supervising youth.
  • Pursuing degree within School of Design major/minor/certificate.
  • Possess a solid knowledge of UWSP Campus and housing policies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all medical training.
  • Distribute and log medicines administered during camp.
  • Be responsible for the first aid kit at all times.
  • Be energetic and enthusiastically engage all campers throughout the entire camp.
  • Strive to ensure that all campers have a positive experience and answer questions about attending UWSP.
  • Complete all required hiring paperwork and trainings.
  • Follow rules as outlined in the UWSP Residence Hall responsibilities.
  • Understand and enforce camp rules and policies.
  • Maintain head counts of assigned campers.
  • Inform camp director if a camper is missing.
  • Escort assigned campers to all areas of activity (classes, tours, meals, social activities).
  • Assist instructor in classroom as requested by instructor(s).
  • Help maintain a safe and positive camp experience for all attendees.
  • Work collaboratively with other counselors and camp staff.
  • Be a role model – encourage integrity, confidence, and teamwork.
  • Help recruit and welcome future students, families, and counselors to UWSP.
  • Demonstrate a prevention mind set in keeping campers safe during camp.
  • Duties as assigned by program manager and camp director.
