About The Position

Sabertooth Sports & Entertainment (SS&E) is seeking a part-time Figure Skating Coach for the Ford Ice Center in Clarksville. This role is part of the Rink Programming department and reports to the Skating Manager. The coach will lead figure skating classes at various levels, ensuring discipline and safety at all times. Responsibilities include delivering high-quality instruction, completing evaluations, attending meetings and workshops, and promoting student participation in events. The position requires excellent communication with parents regarding student progress and expectations. The coach will also participate in sponsored shows, exhibitions, and test sessions, and may be assigned special projects.

Requirements

  • Must be 16 years old.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in coordination of people and resources.
  • Maintain current Learn to Skate USA Membership.
  • Maintain current Learn to Skate USA Certification.
  • Maintain current SafeSport Certification.
  • Maintain current Concussion Training.
  • Ability to teach all levels of the Learn to Skate USA curriculum.
  • Able to interact successfully with a variety of people.
  • Must have good leadership and excellent communication skills and be able to establish effective working relationships with many different people.
  • Must be good at identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Must be able to train others to accomplish goals.
  • Must have figure skating/hockey knowledge.
  • Must have prior on-ice skating experience.
  • Must have personal figure skates (or hockey skates, if hired directly for hockey purposes).
  • Must be confident of skills and have the ability to make sound, independent decisions; be able to coordinate resources and responsibilities and be able to get along well with others.
  • Must have strong leadership qualities.
  • As a condition of employment, qualified applicants will be subject to a background check, including a criminal history check, driving history and character references.

Responsibilities

  • Leads figure skating classes at all levels (Learn to Skate, Learn to Compete, Learn to Synchro, Aspire, Synchronized Skating Teams), while maintaining discipline and safety at all times.
  • Completes class evaluations and rosters, and turns them into the Manager of Scott Hamilton Skating Academy.
  • Delivers high-quality instruction using a variety of skating techniques.
  • Returns all equipment and items to skate rental at the conclusion of programming and leaves the facility in the condition it was found upon arrival.
  • Attends all scheduled in-house meetings and on-ice workshops as required, as well as one teaching seminar approved by the Skating Manager.
  • Exhibits professional behavior at all times, working collaboratively with other instructors, sharing positive teaching methods, and instilling a welcoming environment.
  • Prioritizes skater safety at all times, while also evaluating skater performance.
  • Promotes and encourages student participation in classes, shows, competitions, tournaments, teams, and other special events offered by Ford Ice Center.
  • Handles pre and post-class responsibilities, including 15 minutes before and 5 minutes after each class for student and/or parent interaction. The first class of each new session requires 20 minutes of pre-class interaction.
  • Teaches a minimum of two (2) classes per week or any other classes, programs, or teams offered to the public.
  • Communicates continuously with parents of students regarding their child’s progress, schedule changes, and upcoming opportunities, and prepares them for realistic expectations concerning skill level.
  • Works in all Scott Hamilton Skating Academy/U.S. Figure Skating (USFS) sponsored shows, exhibitions, and basic skills test sessions when scheduled.
  • Responsible for special projects as assigned by the Skating Manager.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of all Ford Ice Center figure skating programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Skating Manager.
