About The Position

The Fifth Grade Teacher is responsible for planning and providing appropriate learning experiences for students, supervising them in various school-related settings, and monitoring and evaluating their outcomes. This role involves developing instructional plans and materials to meet diverse student needs, fostering an environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development, and striving for continuous professional competence. The teacher will maintain records, ensure the appropriate use of equipment and facilities, and attend regularly. Additionally, the teacher will prepare students for future grades by encouraging exploration and perseverance, provide diverse materials for learning and play, and organize activities that promote physical, mental, and social development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and meets licensure requirements as established by the Maryland State Department of Education.
  • Other experience as established by Maryland Law and Board of Education policy.
  • Knowledge of subject matter and appropriate instructional methodologies.
  • Evidence of exemplary human relation skills.
  • Evidence of exemplary organizational and planning skills.
  • Evidence of ability to work effectively with students, parents and staff.
  • Ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds.
  • Good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard.
  • Ability to frequently sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.

  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
  • Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
  • Serves on special committees.
  • Other duties as prescribed by Maryland State Law, Board of Education policy, Negotiated Agreement and Building Principal.
  • Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
  • Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.
  • Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling.
