About The Position

Holt CAT in Georgetown, Texas is looking for an experienced Field Welder Technician 3 (Line bore) that can work independently to perform all aspects of welding repairs, fabrication, torch work, and line boring on heavy construction equipment and related components utilizing HOLT CAT, Caterpillar and AWS Welding Procedures, Standards and Codes in both a shop and field environment. This position will quote jobs, break down prints and procedures to build a material list, order material and provide training to other team members. In addition to removal, installation, and the repair of heavy equipment components, including undercarriage. Must have a safe driving record. Must be able to obtain a CDL, CDL Class B preferred! Line boring machine experience is highly preferred.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of equipment and dimensional tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Expert knowledge of line boring equipment and different line boring processes
  • Advanced knowledge of specification and drawing interpretations.
  • Expert knowledge with Holt current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems.
  • Excellent work habits, accuracy and an exceptional attention to detail and quality of work and awareness.
  • Knowledgeable in the various methods of Non-Destructive-Testing methods.
  • Highly developed technical skills as a welder and fabricator with a demonstrated ability to effectively perform any assigned welding tasks.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced influencing skill, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with an excellent mechanical aptitude.
  • Adaptable to changing schedules and exhibits time management skills.
  • Ability to follow logical troubleshooting and standard operating procedures when performing welding fabrication and repairs.
  • Proficient experience in a heavy equipment environment and required to operate several different machines and heavy equipment including forklifts.
  • Ability to follow manufacturer and company installation and service guidelines to ensure quality work.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in fabrication and welding.
  • Ability to be a self-starter, self-motivated and be a leader with an exceptional safety record.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand information with the ability to follow directions and procedures.
  • Demonstrates all skills or requirements of lower tech level jobs within the department.
  • Valid Driver’s license required and a SAFE driving record, must pass DOT physical
  • Maintain a DOT Medical Card
  • Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL Class B or above) within 90 days of start of the position and must have an acceptable driving record.
  • Advanced Blueprint reading
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • ASNT VT, PT, MT Certifications
  • Ongoing Safety training
  • Leadership training
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Eight or more years required.
  • One year supervisory/lead experience required
  • Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) 1” 3G and 4G on both A36 and T1
  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) 1” 3G and 4G on both A36 and T1
  • Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) 3/8” 3G and 4G
  • Link belt Crane – Welding Qualification
  • First Aid/CPR; Confined Space Entry; Methane/O2 Deficiency MSHA

Responsibilities

  • Performs all aspects of welding (FCAW, SMAW and GTAW, fabricating, cutting, line boring and is very mechanically inclined and can remove, repair, and install all components associated with the repairs in a field or shop environment with no direct supervision.
  • Assists leadership with the evaluation and quoting of projects, in the shop and field environment.
  • Acts on behalf of leadership in their absence, leading others in the accomplishment of tasks by directing and managing on site resources.
  • Performs work order maintenance regularly in conjunction with the supervisor or lead.
  • Leads projects in the development, implementation, and execution of new business opportunities.
  • Obtains additional welder qualifications as required or requested by the customer or project requirements.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and willingness to work in any department that needs assistance.
  • Pursues on-going self-development, classroom training and on-the-job training.
  • Makes decisions, recommendations, commitments and implements new ways of approaching projects.
  • Develops procedures and techniques for performing complex fabrications or repairs.
  • Provides recommendations for equipment needed to perform tasks.
  • Collaborates with leadership on large purchases.
  • Works safely at all times while consistently adhering to company policies, procedures and standards internally as well as externally when representing our organization.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
