About The Position

Intertek is seeking an experienced Field Testing Technician to join their Building Science Solutions team in Plymouth, Michigan. This role offers a career growth opportunity in the building enclosure testing industry. Intertek's Building and Construction division provides assurance, testing, inspection, and consulting services for new developments, existing assets, and facilities, ensuring reliability, safety, and performance. The Field Testing Technician will assist with field testing projects, building inspections, and forensic investigations of building envelope failures. Candidates should be familiar with building enclosures, including wall cladding systems, curtain wall, window and door systems, waterproofing, and roofing.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
5+ years of experience with commercial construction, working with building exteriors, envelope installation, roofing, and/or commercial carpentry.
Ability to work from elevated platforms (ladders, boom-lifts, roof levels, scaffolding, etc.).
Aptitude for working independently on assigned projects.
General computer skills – Microsoft Office & Outlook.
Ability to routinely lift a minimum of 50 pounds, climb stairs and ladders, bend, crawl, push, and pull as needed.
Willingness to travel daily to local job sites.
Valid driver's license and reliable driving record.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree in a technical field.
Working knowledge of test methods and standards associated with testing of building systems, or the ability to learn and comprehend these standards.
Technical competency and ability to effectively communicate with customers and co-workers, both in writing and orally.
Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to meet changing priorities and strict deadlines.

Responsibilities

Assist with field testing projects.
Conduct building inspections.
Perform forensic investigations of building envelope failures.
Communicate with the project team regarding site observations, test preparation, procedures, results, and reporting.
Prepare and submit accurate and concise reports on all assigned projects.
Provide project coordination, including planning, scheduling, execution, and reporting.
Maintain consistent and professional interaction and communication with clients and the project team.
