About The Position

The Ohio Turnpike is seeking an entry level Field Technician to work in our Safety Services Department. This role offers an opportunity for career growth within one of Northern Ohio’s vital resources and contributes to the future of transportation.

Requirements

  • Safety education background with field experience is recommended.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety standards and construction safety practices (OSHA, PERRP regulations).
  • Strong observational and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple teams.
  • Experience in construction, safety, or related field preferred.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor, preferred.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid State of Ohio Driver's License required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in severe weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk job sites, stand for extended periods, and navigate uneven terrain.
  • Must be able to drive the entire length of the Turnpike.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience conducting safety audits or inspections.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure or roadway construction projects.
  • Basic knowledge of safety training methods and documentation.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and conduct safety orientation for all OTIC projects.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of OTIC job sites and active construction projects.
  • Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Prepare inspection reports, document findings, and track follow-up actions.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of safety training programs for employees and contractors.
  • Maintain consistent communication with project and OTIC Maintenance teams to support safe work practices.
  • Provide on-site safety support and guidance to Maintenance, Engineering, and Construction personnel.
  • Participate in incident investigations and assist in developing preventive measures.
  • Promote a strong safety culture across all projects and facilities.
  • Support OTIC field operations for major incidents or any other situation deemed as critical.
