Group: Land Surveying Position: Field Technician Location: Columbus, Akron, or Cincinatti, OH The Field Technician supports the Survey Crew Chief in performing accurate, efficient, and safe field survey operations. This is an entry-level position focused on learning field survey techniques, equipment operation, and safety practices while contributing to project execution. The role requires reliability, attention to detail, and a willingness to develop technical skills in a hands-on outdoor environment.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Flexibility to travel throughout Ohio to project sites required.
Willingness to learn survey equipment and field procedures.
Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to safety.
Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.
Valid driver’s license required.

Nice To Haves

1+ year of land surveying experience or similar work is preferred
Basic understanding of surveying principles is preferred.
Exposure to surveying, construction, or outdoor fieldwork is preferred.
Coursework in surveying, civil engineering, or related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

Work under direct supervision of the Crew Chief to complete assigned field tasks safely and accurately.
Assist with the setup and breakdown of survey equipment.
Operate basic survey instruments (GPS, total stations, data collectors) with guidance.
Assist in establishing control points and collecting field data.
Perform basic field tasks such as rod holding, note keeping, and equipment transport.
Support topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and construction layout activities.
Maintain a safe work environment, including proper signage and equipment placement.
Follow all company and project safety protocols.
Maintain vehicles and equipment in good working condition and report issues.
Communicate professionally with team members and the public on job sites.
Perform other duties as assigned.
