About The Position

This is the entry-level position within the Operations Field Technician job family. This position includes a progression to Field Technician 2 after two years and the completion of necessary training and Operator Qualifications (OQs). The role is responsible for the installation, repair, and replacement of distribution facilities such as main lines and services, and for the operation and maintenance of construction equipment to serve the needs of a residential and commercial customer base. The position requires living within 25 miles and 30 minutes of the reporting location at 935 Buckeye Avenue, Newark, OH 43058.

Requirements

  • Must live within 25 miles AND 30 minutes of 935 Buckeye Avenue, Newark, OH 43058.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to use various types of hand tools needed for repair of field facilities.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Ohio operator's and commercial driver's license (CDL) and certification to operate company trucks under the DOT/Ohio Motor Carrier Safety Regulations for intrastate drivers within 3 months of being awarded the job.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Ability to prepare legible records.
  • Ability to understand written and oral communications.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Dependability in terms of adherence to deadlines and presence on the job.
  • Skill in reading/interpreting gauges & dials.
  • Ability to be certified to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be subject to applicable DOT (Department of Transportation) Anti-Drug and Alcohol Misuse Prevention Plan (AMPP) regulations.
  • Must pass pre-employment Attitude Assessment, Aptitude Testing, Physical Capability Assessment, Drug Screen, MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) screen and Background report.
  • Must abide by area specific living requirements.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and must not require employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) regulations concerning pipeline safety and underground construction practices.
  • Experience in the plumbing trade with natural gas.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, repair, and replacement of distribution facilities such as main lines and services.
  • Operation and maintenance of construction equipment.
  • Serving the needs of a residential and commercial customer base.
  • Operating all light earth-moving equipment, such as backhoe, side boom, tamper, and hydra-crane.
  • Maintenance of equipment, including cleaning, greasing, and lubricating.
  • Transportation of equipment and/or materials.
  • Responding to emergency calls.
  • Working scheduled and non-scheduled overtime.
  • Supporting emergency response efforts, which could include working outside normal hours or assisting with tasks outside of typical responsibilities.
  • Following safety requirements, reporting hazards, and helping maintain a safe environment.
