About The Position

As a Data Center Technician, you will work both independently and as part of a team to support a critical infrastructure environment. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to respond quickly to operational needs. You will be responsible for installing hardware, troubleshooting systems, maintaining documentation, and resolving issues within the data center. This role will require extensive driving within a three-hour radius of Ashburn, VA. You will be required to be on call every other week. On call means that you may receive calls late at night requiring either virtual or possible onsite support. While driving, your driving time to the job will be paid for, excluding the first and last 30 minutes of the day which are considered commuting time. You will be using your own vehicle initially, with the possibility of a company vehicle if hired full-time. If required to stay overnight, the company will pay for the hotel, and you will cover your own food, with reimbursement for food at $45 per day for the following week.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of relevant experience in computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT field
  • Experience with Fiber, OTDR Testing, and Ethernet.
  • RFC/BERT/10GIG Testing.
  • Maintenance on Servers and Switches.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to independently resolve tickets and follow SOPs
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license
  • Successful completion of pre-employment screenings including background and drug & alcohol
  • The ability to work on call, evenings, and weekends as required
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the position

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using ticketing systems to manage tasks and priorities
  • Experience working in a data center environment
  • Associate's degree, technical certification, or equivalent professional/military experience in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, network engineering)
  • CompTIA A+ certification or Network +
  • Cisco Certification
  • Fiber Systems Certifications

Responsibilities

  • Focused on supporting Zayo, Google, Infinera, Ciena and Viasat for FLM work. But would also do some BIR work including Comcast, Spectrum and OBS.
  • Install and maintain server racks and hardware components
  • Perform break-fix repairs and troubleshoot hardware and network issues
  • Respond to operational incidents impacting service availability and escalate when necessary
  • Act as a primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders (engineers, vendors, contractors, etc.)
  • Participate in on-call rotations, scheduled maintenance, and change management activities
  • Create and maintain documentation; contribute to process improvements
  • Assist in training and onboarding new team members
