About The Position

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking Entry Level Field Technicians to join their Underground Utilities, Land Surveying, and Mapping team in Virginia Beach, VA. This role offers the opportunity to learn Underground Utility Mapping (SUE) using various equipment such as Digital Pipe & Cable instruments, Vacuum Excavation Trucks, and Ground Penetrating Radar. You will also learn to interpret Roadway & Utility plans and utility records, with the goal of becoming a Professional Mapper and growing your career. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Requirements

• Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
• Valid Driver’s License Required
• Able to pass Background Check
• Able to work 7:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday – Friday (Minimum)
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Able to bend, kneel, lift and carry up to 75 lbs as needed
• Team Attitude / Mindset
• Ability to travel required
• High school diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

• Experience in the location of underground utilities preferred but not necessary
• Experience using GPR is preferred but not necessary
• Surveying experience preferred but not necessary

Responsibilities

• Conduct field investigations
• Operate equipment to locate subsurface utilities
• Label topographic features from field codes
• Perform calculations
• Mark underground utilities
• Operate vacuum excavation truck in order to expose underground utilities
• Interpret roadway and utility plans, and utility record drawings
• Travel required
• Perform other related duties as assigned
