About The Position

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking a Field Technician I to join their Professional Services Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) team in Portland, Oregon. This role offers an opportunity to learn versatile skills in the engineering and construction industry. Intertek-PSI is a leading US-based provider of construction assurance, testing, and inspection in civil and commercial construction, with services including construction materials testing, geotechnical services, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, and specialty testing. The Field Technician I performs various testing, project-specific observations, and site assessment duties under direct supervision and following detailed procedures.

Requirements

  • No Experience Required – we offer in-house training and opportunity for advancement commensurate with performance
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record
  • Basic Math, Calculator and Computer Skills
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal & written communication
  • Willing and ability to work off shifts and overtime
  • Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound.
  • Ability to kneel and squat occasionally, walk, climb occasionally, and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)

Nice To Haves

  • Individuals with field and/or laboratory construction materials testing / inspections experience are also encouraged to apply!
  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of testing, project specific observations and site assessment duties under direct supervision and/or from detailed controlled procedures
  • Operate testing equipment and conduct testing (e.g., Soil, concrete or other) and provide assessment of data through reporting
  • Utilize drawings, specifications, and diagrams
  • Use specific methods to observe site activities and perform tasks
  • Make detailed observations and give limited interpretation of results
  • Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results
  • Operate a calculator to calculate mathematical test results
  • Communicate effectively with client and project teams
  • Adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure personal safety and the safety of others
