About The Position

The Field Technician assists with routine and non-routine sampling, monitoring, and data collection activities in support of environmental monitoring programs and client service requests. This role involves collecting, documenting, packaging, and shipping samples in accordance with project-specific protocols, performing sampling of hazardous and non-hazardous environmental samples, and assisting with routine sample preparation and/or analyses, generally on site, in support of mobile laboratory operations or screening surveys. The technician is responsible for quality control of all assignments, planning and completing daily assigned routes, and preparing and delivering sample containers/materials to clients. They will regularly transport, set up, utilize, troubleshoot, and break down sample collection/monitoring equipment, communicate directly with customers about sample collection timelines and access requirements, and provide routine updates to supervisors and the main laboratory. The role also includes performing miscellaneous on-site testing, transporting samples back to the laboratory while maintaining custody documentation, and occasionally coordinating with other technicians for sample transport and supply exchanges. Driving safely, maintaining assigned vehicles, and observing all OSHA safety requirements and company health and safety policies are crucial. The technician must also fill out and maintain documentation/records related to field sampling activity, troubleshoot and resolve field equipment issues, and perform preventative maintenance checks on instrumentation. Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays is required to support business needs. The role requires the ability to follow technical instructions and guidance, and perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid driver's license and possess a clean driving record.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Must be able to navigate using vehicle GPS, road maps, and written directions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs consistently, and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Professional working proficiency in English is a requirement, including the ability to read, write and speak in English.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without restriction or sponsorship

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of environmental field testing experience, ideally drinking water and wastewater sampling

Responsibilities

  • Collects, documents, packages, and ships samples in accordance with appropriate project specific sampling and analysis protocols.
  • Perform sampling of hazardous and non-hazardous environmental samples.
  • Assists with routine sample preparation and/or analyses, generally on site, in support of mobile laboratory operations or screening surveys.
  • Completes documents and is responsible for quality control of all assignments.
  • Plan and complete daily assigned route in accordance with priorities. Notify supervisor of any changes to plan.
  • Prepare and deliver sample containers/materials to various clients in support of their account.
  • Regularly transport, set up, utilize, troubleshoot and break down sample collection/monitoring equipment in support of assigned projects/customer accounts.
  • Communicate directly with customers providing clear and accurate information concerning their sample collection timeline and access requirements.
  • Communicate with supervisor and main laboratory, routinely sending timeline and sample/project updates throughout assigned daily route.
  • Perform miscellaneous on-site testing when required, record all data, and complete/submit all required sample documents.
  • Transport samples from the field back to the laboratory, maintaining accurate sample custody documentation, occasionally link up with other technicians mid-route to facilitate sample transport and supply exchanges.
  • Drive safely and observe all traffic laws. Maintain assigned vehicle according to company expectations for cleanliness and maintenance.
  • Observe all OSHA safety requirements while adhering to the company health and safety policies; do not enter any confined space(s) without direct approval from upper management.
  • Fill out and maintain documentation/records related to field sampling activity. Document all data as required by the method performed and maintain logbook records in a complete and ethical manner.
  • Trouble-shooting and resolution of field equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance checks on all applicable instrumentation.
  • Work assigned shift/hours in support of business needs maintaining flexibility to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays when requested.
  • Follows and enforces company health and safety policies.
  • Must be able to follow technical instructions and guidance.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
