About The Position

This position requires applying administrative and technical knowledge and experience to assist and support the Customer Field Service department. The role involves assisting in developing simple to moderate overhead line construction designs and work orders, performing mathematical calculations to support designs, and updating/maintaining computerized systems and data. The technician will learn and become proficient with work management systems, applications, and databases such as GIS, SAP, and ALDEN.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Must have at least thirty (30) accredited college credits toward an Associate Science Degree in engineering and applied science or related curriculum.
  • Must enroll in an Associate Science Degree in engineering and applied science or related curriculum within ninety (90) days of the date of hire while working within the Customer Field Service Department.
  • Must obtain an Associate Science Degree in an engineering and applied science or related curriculum within three (3) years of the date of hire while working within the Customer Field Service Department.
  • Ten (10) years of experience in distribution, line construction, and maintenance is acceptable in lieu of an Associate Science Degree in an engineering and applied science or related curriculum.
  • Occasional users of flame-retardant clothing.
  • Must have working knowledge of the PC including Microsoft Office and other windows-based systems.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and working as a team member.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent, preferably with additional technical training and mechanical aptitude.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, with a safe driving record.
  • Must be available for storm and emergency assignments and to work extended duration with short notice.
  • Must successfully complete ongoing skill assessments to meet defined curriculum and progress, within a two (2) year period.
  • Must be able to refer to and interpret drawings, sketches, written instructions and work orders.
  • Must be able to use measuring tools, mobile data devices and testing instruments.

Nice To Haves

  • Applicable military experience preferred.
  • Currently enrolled in Associate Science Degree in an engineering and applied science or related curriculum preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Customer Field Service Department.
  • Prepare work requests for smaller designs and assist the department as needed (e.g., Emergency Work Templates, pole replacements for work orders within the SAP system, taking field notes for third party work, capital work, and customer work).
  • Gather customer requirements and prepare accurate project documents (e.g., work requests, drawings, material lists, service orders, construction agreements, and PLP Agreements).
  • Act as a customer advocate.
  • Prioritize and organize own work to meet agreed upon deadlines.
  • Assess workload and prioritize own schedule to meet deadlines.
  • Contribute to the achievement of department goals and promote teamwork.
  • Provide support and assistance to others as required.
  • Effectively communicate (written and oral) with all levels of management and bargaining unit employees.
  • Effectively and accurately organize critical information that affects multiple constituencies.
  • Interact professionally with co-workers, management, customers, and other organizations outside UI.
  • Perform all essential job functions in the classification.
  • Continuously work within company safety policies and procedures.
