The Field Tech Intern is expected to perform service, test and maintain various types of power distribution equipment. While learning, the position assists Techs with measurements, equipment set up, removal, site set up and site cleanup. This role involves inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, performing start-up, and collecting data of low, medium, and high voltage (to 500kV) electrical systems, including MCCs, Breakers, and moderately complex relay calibration and power metering. The intern will also test and calibrate electro-mechanical and solid-state relays, perform low, medium, and high voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing, and participate in emergency on-call duty. Responsibilities include the inspection, maintenance, testing, and repair of transformers and related equipment (45 KVA to 130 MVA, dry type and oil filled), as well as maintenance, testing, reconditioning, and repair on circuit breakers (low voltage 480 volt and medium voltage up to 15 KV). The role may be performed in a shop or at a customer site. Additionally, the intern will test and inspect low and medium voltage cable installations and perform start-up, troubleshooting, and repair services on generator controls and transfer schemes. All work must be conducted in strict compliance with regulatory laws. The position requires flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, and availability for out-of-town work. Other job duties and tasks may be assigned.
