About The Position

The Field Technician – Class A is responsible for leading and training other technicians while performing assigned jobs. This role involves promoting good attitudes and aesthetics that represent WPI, daily communication with customers regarding job progress or any special circumstances, and promoting safe work practices. The technician must ensure all HSE requirements and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) are followed. Additionally, they are responsible for filling out detailed daily service ticket reports, reviewing them with the customer for signature, and keeping supervisors informed of job progression daily. Promptly tagging and turning in all warranty or core parts for processing upon job completion, along with all unit information (serial number, location, customer, engine hours, etc.), is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years working on Industrial Engines (gas/diesel, etc).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Has attended and passed the OEM Engine Specification and Design course or equivalent, relevant experience.
  • Must have a valid driver license and have a driving record that complies with WPI insurance requirements.
  • Knowledge of OEM equipment and proficient in troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge and experience of tooling.
  • Advanced mechanical principles and mathematics.
  • Blueprint & Schematic reading.
  • Must be proficient in electrical diagnostics.
  • Must be proficient in computer skills (basic operation, Windows, and Microsoft Office).
  • Understanding of electronic controls such as PLC’s, Murphy panels, Altronic, and ESM.
  • Must be proficient using precision measuring tools.
  • Truck crane operation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks as assigned by supervisor/management and/or lead technician.
  • Responsible for the development of other technicians.
  • Able to read schematics, blueprints, sketches, drawings, and specifications.
  • Determine the best possible procedure to perform a job safely and effectively.
  • Perform GEW Service Bulletin upgrades as set by the factory.
  • Inspect own work at each step, checking tolerances and correct fit.
  • Demonstrate excellent productivity for the job task being performed.
  • Complete all required paperwork, including labor reporting and documentation of quality control and material movement.
  • Work safely and maintain the work area with high standards of housekeeping.
  • Perform required Preventative Maintenance activities on machinery and/or equipment operated, air tools, air compressor, truck, crane, etc.
  • Lock Out/Tag Out (LO/TO) of every job assigned and reviewed with the crew.
  • Own basic tooling for the position.
  • Aid customers as requested and approved by the lead technician.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by supervisor/management.
