About The Position

This position supervises daily operations for field safety operations ergonomists, industrial hygienists, and industrial safety consultant specialists. The role plans and directs programming and service delivery for the assigned region. The supervisor will attend onsite employer consultations with staff throughout the entire region, prepare status reports of service delivery outcomes, collaborations, and projects, and mentor staff in service delivery and professional development. The position also represents the Office of Safety Services at meetings with employers, trade associations, safety & health organizations, and various other stakeholder groups. Additionally, the supervisor plans for resource allocation and prepares/monitors budget expenditures. This position will support all counties in Field Safety Operations Region 3, which includes the entire metro-Dayton and metro-Cincinnati area.

Requirements

  • Completion of undergraduate core program in educational program commensurate with official position description on file; 4 yrs. exp. in public or private organization holding position involved in activities similar to those described in official position description on file.
  • OR 6 yrs. exp. in public or private organization holding position involved in activities similar to those described in official position description on file.
  • OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
  • Knowledge of federal, state & local safety, health & fire prevention laws, rules regulations & national voluntary standards.
  • Knowledge of principles of safety management.
  • Knowledge of safety training techniques & program development.
  • Knowledge of industrial & construction safety practices.
  • Knowledge of BWC policies & procedures.
  • Knowledge of physical sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry, ergonomics, industrial hygiene) or engineering.
  • Knowledge of accounting, management, employee training, Workers’ Comp.
  • Knowledge of Federal/State tax, interviewing, counseling, principles of BWC claims operations.
  • Knowledge of BWC rehabilitation services.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles & techniques.
  • Knowledge of human relations.
  • Knowledge of public relations.
  • Knowledge of sales & marketing principles & techniques.
  • Knowledge of BWC rules & regulations regarding Risk Administration (e.g. Risk classifications, experience rating, retrospective rating, loss control, premium rates).
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint etc.).
  • Skill in the use of data analytics and visualization tools (e.g., Native Tableau dashboards).
  • Skill in the use of BWC enterprise systems supporting filed work, grant applications, claims, policy, and operational management to analyze data, track performance metrics, prepare reports, and support staff supervision and program oversight.
  • Understanding of safety testing equipment (e.g. noise meter, video equipment).
  • Ability to comprehensively analyze & evaluate the effectiveness of the regional Field Safety Operations program.
  • Ability to identify problems in a complex set of variables.
  • Ability to establish professional rapport & effective working relationship with employers, special interest groups, other BWC departments, & the public.
  • Ability to investigate & resolve complaint/problems.
  • Ability to handle sensitive face-to-face & telephone inquiries from employers, special interest groups, other BWC departments, & the public.
  • Ability to effectively manage off-site employees.
  • Ability to build & maintain a positive working atmosphere of growth & participation.
