About The Position

Community Access was founded in 1974 to provide housing and support for people being discharged from psychiatric institutions. Our staff work daily to support thousands of New Yorkers through supportive and affordable housing, peer-driven residential crisis support programs, training, advocacy, supported education, mobile treatment and other healing-focused services. Program/Department Description The Facilities Department is responsible for the overall physical operation, maintenance, safety, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance of Community Access properties. The department ensures that buildings are maintained in a safe, clean, functional, and code-compliant condition while supporting resident satisfaction, asset preservation, and organizational performance goals. Facilities Maintenance is responsible for building systems and repairs, work order management, preventive maintenance, apartment turnovers, building and grounds conditions, emergency response, and oversight of maintenance vendors and contracted porter services. The department is responsible for maintaining accurate and timely maintenance records and utilizing agency systems and technology to track work, inspections, building conditions, and performance. Position Overview The Field Supervisor is responsible for the operational leadership, supervision, quality assurance, and performance management of Community Access's maintenance workforce and assigned properties. The position provides direct supervision of field staff, ensures consistent maintenance and building standards across the portfolio, and oversees work order performance, apartment turnover readiness, preventive maintenance, building conditions and cleanliness, regulatory compliance, staff development, and emergency response coordination. The Field Supervisor regularly monitors building and staff performance through site inspections, supervision, KPIs, and maintenance management systems. The position is responsible for ensuring accurate documentation and use of agency technology, identifying performance concerns and operational trends, and ensuring timely corrective action and follow-up. The Field Supervisor serves as the primary operational bridge between site maintenance staff and the Chief Operating Officer and works collaboratively with Property Management, Supportive Services, and other departments to ensure Facilities issues are identified, communicated, tracked, and resolved. The position ensures maintenance operations support resident satisfaction, regulatory compliance, asset preservation, and organizational goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of building maintenance, facilities management, or property operations experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years supervisory experience.
  • Must be fingerprinted and cleared by the New York State Justice Center.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and carry items which weigh up to 100 lbs.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Understanding, appreciation, and commitment to the philosophy and mission of Community Access.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree, technical certification, or trade school training preferred.
  • Experience supervising multiple sites and maintenance teams preferred.
  • Experience within affordable housing, supportive housing, or multifamily housing preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain the following Certificates or achieve within 4 months of employment: Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems, S-95; Citywide Fire Guard for Impairment, F-01; Citywide Sprinkler Systems, S-12; and Citywide Standpipe Systems, S-13.
  • FDNY Certificates of Fitness preferred.
  • Trade licenses and certifications preferred.
