About The Position

The Field Superintendent at Underwater Mechanix, Inc. (UMX) serves as the on-site leader responsible for the day-to-day management of marine construction and commercial diving operations. This role is the primary point of accountability at the project site, ensuring that work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements, company standards, and all applicable regulatory requirements. The Field Superintendent directs field crews, coordinates subcontractors and equipment, and serves as the direct liaison between the workforce and the Project Manager. This position is based near Jacksonville, Florida, and requires candidates to travel in and outside the state of Florida as needed for projects. On-site presence on projects is mandatory, with job site locations changing as projects are completed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of field experience in marine construction, commercial diving, or heavy civil/waterfront construction.
  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or lead field role managing crews of 5 or more personnel.
  • Working knowledge of marine construction methods and OSHA, USCG, and ADCI standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and dive plans.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to obtain and maintain required federal installation access credentials.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work in remote, marine, and OCONUS field environments.
  • This position is performed primarily in active marine and waterfront construction environments.
  • The Field Superintendent must be capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions, boarding vessels and barges, traversing uneven terrain, and wearing required PPE.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 lbs. is required.

Nice To Haves

  • ADCI-certified commercial diver or diver/tender.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
  • Experience on NAVFAC, USACE, or USCG federally contracted projects.
  • Rigging and crane signalperson certification (ASME B30 or equivalent).
  • First Aid / CPR / AED / Oxygen Provider certification.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce UMX safety programs, site-specific safety plans, and dive safety plans on a daily basis.
  • Conduct pre-shift toolbox talks, job hazard analyses (JHAs/JSAs), and pre-dive briefings.
  • Ensure all operations comply with OSHA, USCG, ADCI, NAVFAC, and USACE safety and environmental standards.
  • Immediately investigate and report any incidents, near-misses, or unsafe conditions to the Project Manager.
  • Verify that all personnel hold current certifications required for assigned tasks.
  • Direct and coordinate all field crews, subcontractors, and equipment operators on the project site.
  • Oversee marine construction activities including pile driving, underwater inspection, waterfront construction, and vessel operations.
  • Monitor dive operations in accordance with the project dive plan and ADCI standards.
  • Coordinate the mobilization, staging, and demobilization of equipment, vessels, and materials.
  • Manage daily field production to ensure schedule milestones are met and resources are utilized efficiently.
  • Identify and communicate scope changes, differing site conditions, or production impacts to the Project Manager.
  • Prepare and submit accurate daily field reports documenting crew hours, equipment utilization, and production quantities.
  • Maintain dive logs, equipment inspection records, and all required project documentation.
  • Document and photograph differing site conditions and changed conditions for change order support.
  • Monitor field workmanship to ensure all work meets contract specifications and quality standards.
  • Conduct and document quality control inspections at key project milestones.
  • Coordinate with owner representatives, CORs, and inspectors during site visits and acceptance inspections.
