About The Position

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is seeking a Field Services Technician in Salem. This role is part of the Information Systems Branch, Field Services Unit, within the Support Services Division. The position involves providing essential technical support to ensure ODOT employees can work efficiently and effectively across the state. The job requires a blend of strong people skills and hands-on technical expertise, with a focus on problem-solving, continuous learning, and making a real impact. Requirements

  • Four (4) years of information systems experience providing IT support for customers using Windows PCs for a medium or large organization OR An associate's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND two (2) years of information systems experience providing IT support for customers using Windows PCs for a medium or large organization OR a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or related field may substitute for all of the above.
  • Valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to lift computers and related equipment up to 60 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site and remote IT support, resolving hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Prioritize and troubleshoot requests from Information Technology Service Management Solution, support desks, technicians, vendors, and customers.
  • Install, upgrade, configure, and test agency-approved software and client applications.
  • Diagnose and resolve system conflicts, performance issues, and agency-wide problems.
  • Evaluate, repair, and replace PC hardware and assist with infrastructure component issues.
  • Install and support new IT equipment, including work in remote locations and during major upgrades.
  • Assist with network access, VPN setup, LAN/WAN troubleshooting, and performance monitoring.
  • Introduce and evaluate new technology, software, and hardware solutions to meet business needs.
  • Support office moves, small projects, and process requests for new software or hardware.
  • Identify, secure, back up, and assist users with data management needs.
