About The Position

This non-exempt position is responsible for standard installation, inspection, reading, maintaining, inventory, reporting and repairing new and existing water metering infrastructure. Responsibilities also include meter installations, and metering infrastructure, responds to general questions and complaints from customers, builders and contractors.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • One (1) year of customer service experience including personal computer experience.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record within the limits of the District’s insurance company.
  • General knowledge of safety and confined space protocols, guidelines and policies.
  • Ability to anticipate unsafe circumstances, act accordingly to prevent accidents, and promptly report accidents and hazardous conditions.
  • General computer knowledge including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to enter, record, and interpret data and information.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic involving addition, subtraction and record computations accurately and quickly.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, organize activities in order to complete tasks in accordance with priorities, address multiple demands and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to follow verbal directions, and written policies and procedures accurately and completely.
  • Ability to deal appropriately with conflict.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently plan and organize daily activities and projects, set priorities, meet deadlines and work under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Work order and inventory management system knowledge preferred.
  • Minimum of Class 1 Colorado Water Distribution Operator Certification preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, and skills and abilities may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Accurate and timely water meter readings for billing purposes, monthly, final billing, skipped and ad hoc related to customer request and usage troubleshooting via manual, hand-held, mobile and advanced metering infrastructure methods.
  • Water meter and communication equipment installation and programming, capturing required identification information, and logging location of metering infrastructure.
  • Routine inspections related to water metering infrastructure to ensure compliance with District standards and specifications, including but not necessarily limited to curb stop, meter pit, yoke, valving, meter, (interior and exterior), and water meter communication equipment.
  • Inspection for other District standards as determined, such as rain sensor, or other required equipment.
  • Ensuring appropriate backflow prevention exists on new services as consistent with District specifications and policies.
  • Standard observations on residential water and sewer service line repairs.
  • Assisting with locating metering related infrastructure and residential water and sewer lines, in relation to remodeling, landscaping or new construction.
  • Troubleshooting, completing routine repairs and maintaining metering infrastructure, including but not necessarily limited to examination of meter infrastructure for signs of tampering, leaking, malfunction or damage.
  • Responding to, investigating and resolving non-elevated customer complaints and concerns related to potential service line leaks, metering issues, low/high pressure, and high usages and red water complaints.
  • Creating, accurately logging information, and closing work related service orders, manually and electronically related to new and existing metering infrastructure activities.
  • Service disconnection and reconnection related to delinquency, repair, for other billing related issues and upon customer request.
  • Using locate equipment to locate, log and map metering related infrastructure, up to and including use of GPS equipment and GIS technologies.
  • Requesting purchase, requisitioning, maintaining and using inventory management tools for meters and metering infrastructure.
  • Providing information and addressing general contractor questions about proper installation requirements and inspection procedures for water meters and water/sewer service lines.
  • Assisting with implementation of the Meter Replacement and Advanced Metering Infrastructure Program.
  • Using a hand-held tablet, laptop or other mobile device, manually and electronically recording meter readings for billing purposes.
  • Providing a high level of internal and external customer service.
  • Assisting with meter reading software and/or data acquisition uploading and downloading as needed.
  • Assisting with bulk water operations as it relates to hydrant inspections and hydrant meter maintenance.
  • Assisting water operations, production and district services departments as needed, including but not limited to performance of street valve operation on the distribution system.
  • Attending technical and safety training meetings, courses and seminars as required.
  • Performing routine physical cleanup and housekeeping of work areas, equipment, vehicles and buildings using standard cleaning equipment and material.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assisting and supporting the Cross connection Control technician and program.
