About The Position

Custom Truck One Source (CTOS) is seeking a Field Service Technician based in the Greater Syracuse area. This role involves performing preventative maintenance (PMs) and repairs on utility trucks and equipment, including hydraulics, electrical wiring, and diesel engines. The technician will work on various equipment such as bucket trucks, diggers, and truck-mounted cranes. CTOS provides a utility truck equipped with a welder, crane, company computer, and phone. The company's mission is 'Rebuilding America Starts Here' by designing, assembling, selling, renting, and servicing trucks, cranes, and other heavy equipment for major utility, telecom, construction, forestry, oil, and rail companies.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Five years of related experience (Shop Tech and Field Tech).
  • Must hold a valid driver's license.
  • Must have your own tools.
  • Proficient in documentation using software, meeting deadlines and schedules.
  • Mechanics tools.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to travel overnight when needed.
  • Ability to regularly work in outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold, and extreme heat.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Positive attitude, professionalism, Punctual attendance.
  • Physical capability for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
  • The ability to bend, stoop, and lift, up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfort with heights and manual labor.
  • Manual dexterity for operating tools and equipment.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • CDL Class B a plus.
  • Electrical, schematic / blueprints, hydraulic, welding, and related experience.
  • Experience with Quick Serve, DTNA, or related diagnostic software.
  • DOT, ANSI, and Dielectric testing desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform vehicle troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance work on chassis and track-mounted aerials, digger derricks, cranes, high rail, and other equipment in the field, in accordance with dealer and factory standards.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and repair orders/instructions to perform required maintenance and service, utilizing a laptop for information access and diagnostic tests.
  • Perform work as outlined in work instructions efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with Custom Truck One Source standards.
  • Diagnose and repair LMI Diagnostics (Load Moment Indicator) and CAN bus (Controller Area Network).
  • Troubleshoot and repair utility trucks and equipment, including electrical and hydraulics.
  • Inspect and service vehicles and make repairs and adjustments both at the service center and in the field.
  • Verify work performed and road test vehicles as necessary.
  • Prepare inspection reports, repair orders (recording service time and parts costs), and timecards completely and accurately.
  • Tag all warranty and core parts for return.
  • Advise management immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the time promised.
  • Attend CTOS safety training and follow all safety requirements.
  • Attend CTOS and factory-sponsored training classes.
  • Understand and follow federal, state, and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes.
  • Communicate easily with customers and internal departments to ensure minimal equipment downtime.
  • Travel beyond the area of coverage based on business needs.
  • Work closely with the Service Manager to grow and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Perform additional duties or responsibilities as designated by the Service Manager.
