Field Service Technician- Capital Equipment
About The Position
Viking Engineering and Development is seeking a dynamic Field Service Technician to support customers by installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining industry-leading wood fastening machines. This role involves overseeing new machine installations from start to finish, including setup, calibration, and providing hands-on training for operators and maintenance teams. The technician will apply expertise in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems daily to deliver exceptional service, ensure optimal machine performance, and contribute to customer success.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in Field Service of Industrial equipment, or related mechanical / electrical roles.
- High mechanical aptitude, problem-solving and troubleshooting ability especially in electrical systems, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals, manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
Nice To Haves
- Experience with pneumatics and hydraulics
- A two-year degree in Mechatronics or Automated Machines
- Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Emerson and B&R Programming Software
- Solidworks
Responsibilities
- Install, service, troubleshoot, and maintain Viking equipment using electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical knowledge.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to ensure proper assembly and operation.
- Test and calibrate equipment to ensure functionality and compliance with specifications.
- Perform modifications and repairs; document changes accurately and communicate with engineering teams.
- Train customer operators and maintenance staff on equipment operation, safety, and preventive maintenance.
- Provide phone support as needed.
- Maintain strong customer relationships by addressing issues professionally and efficiently.
- Provide detailed and accurate service reports and expense reports in a timely manner.
- Ensure all work complies with company safety standards and OSHA regulations.
