About The Position

IEM is seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to join their Field Service team. This role will provide electrical support to a diverse customer base, involving installation, maintenance, modifications, and troubleshooting both on-site and remotely. The position includes a hands-on training program covering production and Quality Control to ensure a practical understanding of IEM's equipment. The Field Service Engineer will be responsible for commissioning, troubleshooting, analyzing operational issues, and repairing instruments/products at customer locations. When not on-site, the role will involve engineering, PLC/HMI programming, and customer support. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, technical, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience with Power generation.
  • More than two years of experience in field services, working as a field service engineer with complex electrical systems and Power Generation experience.
  • Sound knowledge of and hands-on experience in servicing, maintaining, commissioning, and repairing of Power equipment.
  • Knowledge of servicing industrial equipment and strong software skills.
  • Being an excellent team player, having strong communication skills and an ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Current Passport/Work Permit valid in Canada and United States of America.
  • Ability to travel within Canada and to the United States of America.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multiple/paralleling generator control system start-ups utilizing multi-function protection relays (Basler, GE or Schweitzer) and multi-function engine controllers (Woodward & ComAp).
  • The ability to make changes in the field to HMI screen & PLC ladder logic programming.

Responsibilities

  • Commissioning of power products and control systems for power systems integration with other vendors’ equipment, including generators, UPS’s, and SCADA systems.
  • Performing preventive maintenance, field installations, and modifications.
  • Providing technical product support and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborating with project engineers and project managers to select and coordinate part replacements.
  • Performing engineering site surveys on equipment to determine the scope of field work.
  • Performing programming and service on complex automation and protective relaying systems.
  • Managing office workload post-site, prioritizing tasks, and submitting project documentation on time.
  • Traveling domestically and internationally for hands-on support at customer sites.
  • Working at customer sites outside of regular work hours as required.
