About The Position

Herc-U-Lift, Inc. is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Field Service Technician to join their service and repair team. This fast-paced role involves traveling to customer locations to repair material handling equipment, including MEWPs and rail car movers. The technician will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and other breakdowns, managing their own parts inventory, and ensuring customer satisfaction through technical expertise and excellent communication. This position requires the ability to work independently, manage one's workload effectively, and maintain a professional image.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, fuel systems and/or charging systems.
  • Mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and ability to quickly learn software for work orders.
  • Ability to work well independently and with others.
  • Organized with strong attention to details.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to present a professional image in appearance and preparation.
  • High school education.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75lbs frequently.
  • Ability to perform prolonged periods standing and walking.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, push, pull, crawl/crouch and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
  • Ability to visually inspect machines.

Nice To Haves

  • Some vocational or community college with related coursework preferred.
  • 3+ years direct technician experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, or other breakdowns of material handling equipment (forklifts, MEWPs, rail car movers, rough terrain lifts).
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble engines, transmissions, differentials, clutches, brakes, electrical systems, fuel systems, couplers, and other components.
  • Order and install replacement parts for machines in coordination with the parts department.
  • Maintain technical knowledge of all equipment brands.
  • Use tools of the trade, including precision instruments, welding equipment, shop machines, and power tools for adjustments and repairs.
  • Maintain personal parts inventory in the company van.
  • Follow all safety protocols.
  • Complete and submit all required paperwork.
  • Provide excellent customer service, including offering additional services.
  • Manage workload effectively.
  • Respond to customer needs in a positive, caring, and timely manner.
  • Build rapport with customers through technical expertise and communication skills.
  • Manage job as though it were a small business.
