About The Position

This is the entry-level position within the Operations Field/Service Technician job family. This position includes a progression to Field/Service Technician 2 after two years and the completion of necessary training and Operator Qualifications (OQs). The role is responsible for the installation, repair, and replacement of distribution facilities such as main lines and services, and for the operation and maintenance of construction equipment to serve the needs of a residential and commercial customer base.

Requirements

Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
Must have a mechanical aptitude and be able to use various types of hand tools needed for repair of field facilities.
Must be able to perform basic math calculations, prepare legible records and understand written and oral communications.
Must have the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Must be detail-oriented and able to follow through on assignments with little or no direct supervision.
Requires skill in reading/interpreting gauges & dials.
Must be able to be certified to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
All positions are subject to applicable DOT (Department of Transportation) Anti-Drug and Alcohol Misuse Prevention Plan (AMPP) regulations.
Must be able to pass applicable service physical capability assessments.
Job requires working in all weather conditions.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must not require employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

Experience in the plumbing trade with natural gas experience and current OQ (Operator Qualification) plumbing qualifications preferred.
Experience reading/interpreting gauges and dials.

Responsibilities

Installation, repair, and replacement of distribution facilities such as main lines and services.
Operation and maintenance of construction equipment.
Serving the needs of a residential and commercial customer base.
Operating all light earth-moving equipment, such as backhoe, side boom, tamper, and hydra-crane.
Maintenance of equipment, including cleaning, greasing, and lubricating.
Transportation of equipment and/or materials.
Installing and removing gas meters, meter settings, and regulators.
Inspecting and testing service and house lines for leaks.
Using test instruments to install, service, and adjust all gas appliances.
Investigating gas service inquiries, such as no gas, leaks, gas odor, blowing gas, fires, explosions, and high bills.
Advising plumbers, contractors, and prospective customers on service and house line installations.
Turning gas on/off for customers.
Collecting delinquent bills.
Reading meters.
Locating, cleaning, and repairing curb boxes.
Using pressure gauges to test for line leaks and gas detection instruments to locate leaks.
Responding to emergency calls.
Working scheduled and non-scheduled overtime.
Supporting emergency response efforts, which could include working outside normal hours or assisting with tasks outside of typical responsibilities.
