About The Position

The Solar Field Service Technician is directly responsible for the safe, productive, day-to-day onsite operations of Commercial and Utility Scale Solar PV plants. From performing preventative maintenance and inspections, to troubleshooting and making repairs to maximize production, the Solar Field Service Technician gets to exercise a variety of skill sets and has constant opportunities to learn more — all while making an impact on our safe, reliable, clean energy future. Field Service Technician 1 is a foundational operator within ACT's ACTivate Technician Track, gaining technical skills, safety competency, and company culture fluency under the supervision of senior technicians and Field Leadership. This role supports preventative and corrective maintenance and inspection tasks on solar modules, trackers, inverters, and medium-voltage equipment while demonstrating consistently safe work behavior. This position may be filled through direct external hire or internal promotion. It is not required that a candidate have held any other position on the ACTivate Technician Track prior to this role; the qualifications below reflect the minimum experience and competencies needed to perform the job, however they were gained. This role is based in the field and is not assigned to the ACT Power Services main office location. Employees primarily work from customer sites where ACT Power Services provides Operations & Maintenance services. While the listed location(s) are preferred based on the primary site assignment, candidates residing in other locations may be considered. Travel to other sites across the United States may be required based on operational and business needs.

Requirements

  • 6 months to 1 year of relevant field experience in solar, electrical, or a related technical/mechanical trade; or successful completion of ACT's Apprentice program (equivalent training and education also considered)
  • Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) sign-off, or ability to obtain sign-off within an established onboarding period
  • OSHA 10 General Industry certification, or ability to obtain within the first 90 days
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret drawings, including identification of fuses, breakers, switches, power sources, and major BoS equipment
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to take direction and complete tasks
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must have the ability to travel around 20% and work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends as needed

Nice To Haves

  • FAA Part 107 certification
  • Technical Writing course
  • ACT High Voltage/Medium Voltage training completed or in progress

Responsibilities

  • Uphold a high level of safety standards in everything that you do
  • Assist in and support routine preventive maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair of solar photovoltaic facilities, including inverter (string or central) maintenance and repairs
  • Perform string-level troubleshooting and repairs, tracker inspections, and basic maintenance support
  • Conduct routine vegetation and site equipment inspections, including monthly inspections
  • Clean or replace damaged components as directed
  • Apply fundamental knowledge of NEC code, electrical theory, and industry best practices, with continuing education as assigned
  • Perform basic electrical testing (IR, continuity, grounding, voltage) under supervision
  • Responsible for dispatching and remediation efforts on repairs under 50V
  • Maintain company property such as vehicles, tools, meters, and plant stock
  • Maintain service reports, inspection documentation, safety paperwork, and spare parts inventory; log data into Fiix, TrueContext, Deputy, and ACT SharePoint
  • Conduct and log vehicle inspections on time
  • Initiate warranty claims with equipment vendors/OEMs as needed
  • Identify safety hazards and take appropriate action to remove or eliminate hazards
  • Conduct pre-job brief analysis
  • Actively participate in the Good Catch Program and BBSO observations
  • Attend maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical writing training as assigned
