About The Position

The Field Service Technician I is responsible for performing comprehensive maintenance services on stormwater facilities and devices, and vegetation management services across a wide range of customer sites. The position requires hands-on fieldwork, attention to safety, and the ability to operate effectively in diverse outdoor environments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to travel 50 – 75% by vehicle, with overnight travel throughout territory
  • Willingness to work in a team environment
  • Clear vision, with or without corrective lenses, including close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Proficient in using various forms of technology to complete tasks effectively and efficiently

Nice To Haves

  • Experience of previous work-related skills, knowledge, or experience
  • A valid driver’s license, good driving record, and the ability to drive company vehicles (DOT commercial motor vehicles)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT medical card
  • Valid state required herbicide license
  • Ability to acquire a TWIC card within 120 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Prepare herbicides or materials for work application
  • Communicate with customers about the scope of work, timelines, and updates
  • Visually inspect all aspects of stormwater conveyance systems and document any problems found that affect functionality of the systems
  • Dispose of trash or waste materials properly in and around stormwater conveyance systems
  • Use a variety of equipment for chemical applications to manage unwanted vegetation
  • Identify designated areas for treatment to determine appropriate course of action
  • Apply knowledge of research findings to address environmental problems
  • Verify that hazardous chemicals are handled, stored, and disposed of according to IAW regulations
  • Keep record of usage and disposal of hazardous chemicals
  • Gain knowledge on immediate response expected for chemical spills and neutralize, when necessary, which includes application of bleach, setup of sock perimeter, and application of Oil-Dry as is dictated by the label and training
  • Dispose of trash or waste materials properly by following the instructions on the label under the Storage and Disposal section (unless preapproved to leave waste onsite)
  • Use technology to complete a tailgate brief and app reports throughout the day as necessary
  • Safely operate power equipment such as slope mowers, tractors, UTVs, marsh masters, and zero turn mowers
  • Safely operate handheld power equipment such as string trimmers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, hedge or brush trimmers, and saws
  • Safely use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, or axes
  • Maintain and safely operate spray equipment (ATV, UTV, Roxor, etc.)
  • Load and unload containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, hand-trucks, forklifts, or transfer augers per safety training
  • Lift, push, and pull hoses or equipment into place for application
  • Drive trucks or other vehicles to or at work sites, with or without trailers to haul supplies and tools
  • Identify and report any hazardous conditions or behaviors and defective equipment
  • Adjust, repair and service machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions
  • Manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery on spray application equipment
  • Direct vehicle traffic including flagging motorists and setting out signs and cones
  • Perform preventative, routine maintenance on vehicles, heavy equipment, and spray equipment
  • Clean or service machinery to ensure operating efficiency
  • Comply with all applicable traffic laws and regulations while operating a vehicle
  • Adhere to safety procedures including conforming to all OSHA standards and properly using personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Develop skills and knowledge to obtain core herbicide applicator licenses
  • Develop skills and knowledge on the proper application of growth regulators
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Confer with supervisors to make operational decisions
  • Participate in company meetings, trainings and state licensure programs
  • Prioritize building strong relationships by effectively communicating with our customers, their needs, and expectations, to deliver exceptional customer service and a positive experience
