About The Position

Rust Automation & Controls is seeking a motivated Field Service Technician to support customers across the Western United States. This role focuses on hands-on instrumentation service, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair while working independently in a variety of industrial environments and collaborating with internal service and management teams. Key objectives include providing reliable and professional field service support to customers, applying strong technical aptitude to instrumentation, calibration, and repair activities, supporting customer operations through responsive, high-quality service execution, and adapting to varying industrial environments and customer site requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement)
  • Associate Degree in a technical field (required)
  • Field service or industrial experience (required)
  • Instrumentation training or apprenticeship experience (required)
  • Demonstrated basic electrical and mechanical knowledge
  • Knowledge of instrumentation systems (required)
  • Ability to use hand tools and electronic testing equipment
  • Strong computer proficiency and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality
  • Strong interpersonal and customer-facing communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Dependable, punctual, and accountable for assigned responsibilities
  • Curiosity and desire to learn and develop professionally
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively and work flexible schedules
  • Valid Driver’s License with a safe driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Calibration and/or metrology experience (preferred)
  • Safety certifications or credentials (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Daily travel to a diverse customer base across multiple industrial environments
  • Applying instrumentation knowledge to troubleshoot, repair, and service equipment
  • Successful completion and application of apprenticeship-level instrumentation training
  • Adapting to customer-specific safety, operational, and environmental requirements
  • Performing hands-on troubleshooting, calibration, and repair activities
  • Utilizing hand tools and electronic testing equipment to diagnose and resolve issues
  • Maintaining professionalism, safety compliance, and quality standards in the field
  • Regional travel within the following states: UT, CA, CO, WY, NV, ID, MT, ND, HI
