About The Position

Holt CAT, the largest Caterpillar dealership of heavy equipment in the United States, is seeking an experienced Electrical Power Generator - Field Service Technician for its Irving, Texas location. This position is responsible for providing troubleshooting and high-quality repair service on power generation, gas and diesel engines, and ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches) to respond to customer needs in a positive, safe, and timely manner, ensuring maximum value for work performed. The role requires at least 5 years of field or shop technician troubleshooting and repair skills for Electrical Power and Generator experience, and at least 5 years of experience with ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches). A clean driving record is mandatory.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of field or shop service tech troubleshooting and repair skills of Electrical Power and Generator experience required.
  • At least 5 years of field or shop service tech troubleshooting and repair skills of Natural Gas and Diesel Engine experience required.
  • At least 5 years of field or shop service tech troubleshooting and repair skills of ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches) experience required.
  • Clean driving record required.
  • Must have own tools for both electrical and mechanical.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Electrical experience with 270v or greater.
  • Valid Driver’s license required.
  • Must maintain a DOT Medical Card.
  • Must maintain a safe driving record.
  • Must maintain a valid Texas driver license.
  • Must be able to work Monday-Friday from 7 AM - 5 PM, and overtime as required.
  • Must be on-call two weeks out of the month.
  • Must own required tools to perform repairs.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical 3 phase experience preferred.
  • Able to build electrical control panel boxes.
  • Able to commission generators for data centers.

  • Ability to operate a crane and forklift, and obtain required certifications/licenses.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under fast-paced, time constraining circumstances.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair.
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • More than five years of electric power generator equipment experience required; 7 or more years preferred.
  • MSHA certification preferred.
  • Electrical Journeyman license preferred.
  • 3 phase electrical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Providing troubleshooting and high-quality repair service on electric power generation equipment, powered by natural gas or diesel engines, and ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches), Switchgear.
  • Responding to customer's needs in a positive, safe, and timely manner to ensure maximum value for work performed.
  • Performing basic to intermediate repairs and minimal troubleshooting offsite with minimal supervision.
  • Performing basic to intermediate troubleshooting and minimal diagnoses of electric power generator equipment malfunctions and failures.
  • Removing and installing parts, disassembling and assembling components to CAT specifications.
  • Testing, making adjustments, and verifying proper operation of all repairs and adjustments.
  • Preparing and completing all job-related documents, writing service reports, ordering parts, and maintaining clear customer records.
  • Accessing databases required to complete the job.
  • Operating equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates.
  • Maintaining service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections, and driver logs as required by the Department of Transportation.
  • Adhering to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
  • Maintaining all company equipment, tools, and vehicles in good, clean, and working order.
  • Communicating job progress to supervisor and customer as needed.
  • Completing assigned jobs and tasks to meet flat rate time and re-work standards.
  • Working overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs.
  • Completing all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner.
  • Projecting professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance.
  • Acting as a mentor to lower-level Technicians.
  • Ensuring regular and punctual employee attendance.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
