About The Position

The Field Supervisor serves as Fracht's on-site representative during heavy lift and project cargo operations. This role is primarily observational — the Field Supervisor monitors field activities, documents conditions, and communicates findings to internal project teams and clients, but does not direct or supervise contractors or subcontractors in the field. The Field Supervisor is expected to maintain a thorough understanding of approved lift plans, method statements, and safety requirements, and holds the authority to stop work when an immediate safety risk is identified. This position requires frequent travel, flexible availability, and a strong background in heavy lift, project cargo, or related field operations.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, construction, or related field

Responsibilities

  • Observe and oversee day-to-day field operations related to heavy lift and project cargo transportation.
  • Observe and oversee loading, discharge, transloading, skidding, jack & slide, gantry, and heavy haul operations.
  • Monitor cargo handling activities at ports, rail terminals, manufacturing facilities, and delivery sites.
  • Verify and report that all operations are executed in accordance with approved method statements, lift plans, route surveys, and engineering requirements.
  • Verify cargo dimensions, weights, center of gravity, lashing arrangements, and transport configurations prior to execution.
  • Attend and observe critical lifting and transportation activities during nights, weekends, and holidays when required.
  • Act as the primary on-site point of contact between clients, subcontractors, stevedores, crane companies, heavy haulers, railroads, utilities, police escorts, and internal project teams, in an observational and communicative capacity.
  • Participate in operational planning meetings, toolbox talks, safety briefings, and client coordination calls.
  • Provide real-time operational updates to project management and clients throughout all critical activities.
  • Communicate equipment and logistics readiness observations to Operations; vendor coordination and mobilization is handled through the Operations team.
  • Monitor and report on compliance with all company HSE policies, customer safety requirements, DOT regulations, railroad standards, and port regulations.
  • Conduct on-site safety observations and hazard assessments before and during operations.
  • Stop unsafe work immediately when required.
  • Observe and document proper use of PPE and compliance with approved lifting and transportation procedures.
  • Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation if necessary. Take photos for documentation immediately upon any damage or incident.
  • Review transportation drawings, route surveys, rigging plans, axle load calculations, and clearance studies.
  • Assist with identifying and documenting operational risks, routing constraints, overhead obstructions, ground bearing concerns, and permit limitations.
  • Support development of contingency plans for weather delays, route changes, equipment breakdowns, or site restrictions.
  • Assist project teams in evaluating transportation methods, trailer configurations, railcar requirements, and site access constraints.
  • Prepare detailed field reports and timelines, including operational updates, delays, site conditions, safety observations, and change order justifications.
  • Maintain photo documentation of all critical operations and cargo condition.
  • Verify delivery documentation, cargo inspections, PODs, and survey reports.
  • Track operational progress against project schedules and report deviations immediately to Operations.
  • Represent the company professionally during all customer interactions, including dinner meetings.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, vendors, terminals, railroads, and subcontractors.
  • Assist with vendor performance evaluations and operational reviews.
  • Support claims prevention through proper documentation and operational observation.
