About The Position

Leidos is seeking a Field Service Engineer (FSE) to support the Radio Frequency In-Transit Visibility (RF-ITV) program from Fort Irwin, California. The FSE serves as the program technical and operational representative across an assigned NORTHCOM area of responsibility focused on the Western and Southwestern United States. The position maintains RF-ITV infrastructure, supports military customers, conducts field missions and training, and sustains system operational readiness. This position requires significant independent field work and approximately 75% travel, primarily within CONUS, with potential OCONUS/international travel as mission requirements dictate. The FSE must be comfortable working directly with military and government customers, independently troubleshooting hardware, software, communications, and network connectivity issues, and representing the RF-ITV program at supported installations. RF-ITV supports the U.S. Army Capability Program Executive Enterprise Software and Services (CPE ES2) / Logistics Information Systems (LIS) mission by providing in-transit visibility of military cargo moving through the Defense Transportation System (DTS).

Requirements

  • Must have an active Secret security clearance; US Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of applicable experience, or Associate degree with 7 years of applicable experience.
  • Current driver's license and ability to support extensive travel and extended driving associated with field missions.
  • Ability to climb a ladder or ascend at least 25 feet in a lift (bucket) truck.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and troubleshoot hardware and software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, remote-management software, Windows 10/11, and antivirus/security software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize multiple technical requirements, communicate effectively with military and government customers, and escalate mission-impacting issues appropriately.
  • DoD Directive 8570 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II certification (such as CompTIA Security+ CE) or current equivalent required for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience installing, upgrading, troubleshooting, or replacing RFID hardware and software, including FDUs, fixed and handheld interrogators, Iridium modems, and RFID read/write software.
  • Working knowledge of active RFID wave propagation and ISO 18000-7 Over-the-Air protocol, or demonstrated ability to develop and apply this knowledge in field operations.
  • Prior experience briefing DoW customers and providing classroom or over-the-shoulder technical training for groups of up to 25 personnel.
  • Familiarity with TIPS Read/Write software.
  • Familiarity with Micro Focus (formerly Serena) Solutions Business Manager (SBM) software.
  • Experience supporting geographically dispersed military installations or logistics operations in the Western or Southwestern United States.

Responsibilities

  • Independently maintain assigned RF-ITV infrastructure and support the program requirement to sustain a 97% Operational Readiness (OR) Rate.
  • Conduct field missions including site surveys, installations, upgrades, repairs, system restoration, site de-installations, formal classroom training, and exercise support; complete required Government customer reports upon mission completion.
  • Serve as the RF-ITV subject matter expert for supported military organizations; provide technical assistance, training, briefings, demonstrations, and recommendations on effective ITV employment.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot, replace, and maintain RF-ITV hardware and software, including Field Data Units (FDUs), fixed and handheld RFID interrogators, communications equipment, RFID applications, Remote Desktop Management software, Windows operating systems, security policies, and patches.
  • Support the complete ITV capability within the AOR, including fixed RF-ITV infrastructure, Next Generation Tags (NGT), Portable Deployment Kits (PDK), and RFID read/write software including TIPS Read/Write.
  • Engage directly with DoW customers to understand logistics processes and recommend improvements to RF-ITV employment and infrastructure that support mission requirements.
  • Diagnose hardware, software, network, communications, and RFID issues using the RF-ITV ITV Portal, Integrated Support System (ISS), ITV Global Helpdesk, Daily ITV Report, remote-management capabilities, and other program tools.
  • Respond to system outages within established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), document actions and progress in ISS Service Management Tickets (SMTs), and escalate mission-impacting issues when required.
  • Maintain accountability and lifecycle management of Government Furnished Equipment (GFE), including receipt, physical security, maintenance, Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA), transfer, retirement/disposal, and accurate ISS documentation.
  • Share new or innovative technical solutions with the FSE team so validated approaches can be applied across the RF-ITV enterprise.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local command procedures, policies, and program requirements.
  • Work independently at geographically dispersed customer locations while coordinating priorities and maintaining effective communication with military, government, and program stakeholders.
