The Field Service Engineer for Leica Biosystems is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and installation of histology and pathology diagnostic equipment. This position is part of the Field Technical Service department and will be located in Pittsburgh, PA. At Leica Biosystems, our vision is to advance cancer diagnostics and improve lives. You will be a part of the Field Service Engineer team and report to the MidAtlantic Regional Field Service Manager, responsible for delivering high-quality, responsive service that ensures optimal instrument performance and customer uptime. This role requires strong technical problem-solving, ownership of service activity within your territory, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree with 1+ years of relevant field service or technical, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronic, or instrumentation systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers and internal stakeholders in a service-oriented environment.
  • Travel throughout the district – this position services Columbus, OH and the surrounding areas, with expected travel of 70–90% and the possibility of overnight travel based on business needs.
  • Hold a current valid driver’s license and meet fleet eligibility requirements.
  • Candidates must be able to lift, lower and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted (tools, replacement parts, consumables etc.).
  • Candidates must be able to frequently bend, stoop, twist, turn, crouch/crawl, push/pull, and sit/stand for extended periods of time.
  • Candidates must also be able to reach at, above and below shoulder level, flex/extend neck, and demonstrate good hand and finger dexterity.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Leica histology and pathology diagnostic instruments, diagnosing root cause issues across mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronic, and refrigeration systems.
  • Own and manage service activity within your territory, including prioritizing and planning service calls, maintaining accurate documentation, ordering parts, and ensuring timely closure of service events in compliance with ISO, FDA, and Leica policies.
  • Build strong customer relationships by providing technical guidance, basic operator training, and responsive support, while collaborating with internal teams (technical support, applications, commercial) to resolve complex issues and optimize customer satisfaction and instrument uptime.
