About The Position

ASM is seeking a Field Service Engineer with a military background to support advanced semiconductor equipment. This role offers a direct transition into a high-tech environment where technical expertise, discipline, and mission-driven mindset are valued. The position begins with a 24-month structured assignment in Hillsboro, OR, focusing on building expertise in ASM systems, operating methodologies, and customer support practices. Following this training, the engineer will relocate to Austin, TX, to play a key role in the startup of a new fab. In Austin, the role involves expert-level tool support, technical leadership, driving startup readiness, leading problem-solving efforts, coordinating escalations, and mentoring new engineers. The position requires building trusted customer relationships, establishing technical and operational standards, and contributing to the scaling of a new operation, directly influencing system performance, uptime, and customer success.

Requirements

  • Military background with relevant technical experience (e.g., electronics, mechanical systems, avionics, nuclear, propulsion, or similar)
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting complex equipment or systems in operational environments
  • Ability to follow structured procedures while adapting to real-world scenarios
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to perform under pressure
  • Clear communication skills and team-oriented approach
  • Willingness to relocate to Austin, TX after training in Hillsboro, OR
  • Flexibility to travel as required

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair ASM semiconductor equipment at customer sites
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and system-level issues
  • Respond to escalations and work under time-sensitive conditions to restore operations
  • Work in cleanroom environments while following strict safety protocols
  • Communicate clearly with customers and internal teams
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
  • Collaborate with engineering and global support teams to resolve technical challenges
