About The Position

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is an employee-owned federal government contractor supporting national priority programs through our strategic solutions in the areas of Information Technology, Test & Evaluation, Engineering & Analysis, and Training. As a Field Service Engineer (Procurement), you will evaluate the design and performance of advanced Information Technology-based systems, install, configure, and test server hardware, assemble and install simulator components, assist with hardware upgrades, replacements, and repairs, review and assess technical documentation, create and update technical requirements, specify system components, and draft technical drawings. You will also coordinate and participate in system installation, testing, verification, troubleshooting, and reporting. Additionally, you will generate and process material requests, create, route, and track purchase requisitions and orders, coordinate with corporate buyers, track order status, and perform material management functions including visual inspection, verification, functional receipt inspection, and processing of Return Material Authorizations. You will also own day-to-day hardware inventory and property management, support the development and maintenance of As-Built Lists, Bills of Material, and configuration records, and assist in compiling and updating configuration management documents.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree and 1-2 years of college or related work experience
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Understanding of server components (CPU, RAM, storage, etc.)
  • Familiarity with server models and rack types
  • Ability to safely lift and mount servers into racks
  • Knowledge of proper screw and mounting practices
  • Experience or familiarity with Ethernet, power, and fiber cabling
  • Understanding of proper cable management techniques.
  • Awareness of electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions
  • Basic safety procedures for lifting and working around equipment
  • Ability to follow wiring diagrams or instructions

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the design and performance of advanced Information Technology-based systems
  • Install, configure, and test server hardware (including CPUs, RAM, hard drives, and network cards) for our training simulator systems
  • Assemble and install simulator components such as computer racks, computers, network infrastructure, and support systems—ensuring optimal airflow and effective cable management
  • Assist with hardware upgrades, replacements, and repairs as needed
  • Review and assess technical documentation to verify equipment suitability in system designs
  • Create and update technical requirements, specify system components, and draft technical drawings using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools
  • Coordinate and participate in system installation, interface testing, operational performance verification, troubleshooting, technical issue evaluations, and the preparation of technical reports and presentations
  • Generate and process material requests based on engineering, production, and program requirements.
  • Create, route, and track purchase requisitions (PRs) and purchase orders (POs) in Costpoint.
  • Coordinate closely with corporate buyers, providing complete and accurate requirements so that they can perform vendor sourcing and quoting.
  • Track order status, delivery schedules, and lead times.
  • Perform material management functions, including: Visual inspection of incoming packaging and hardware. Verification that part numbers, quantities, and documentation match the purchase order. Coordination of functional receipt inspection as required. Processing of Return Material Authorizations (RMAs) for non‑conforming or failed parts and coordinating reships/replacements. Ensuring accurate receipt and issuance of parts into the Material Resource Planning (MRP) / Costpoint system.
  • Own day‑to‑day hardware inventory and property management (IT equipment, servers, networking gear, test equipment, spares, and related hardware).
  • Support development and maintenance of As‑Built Lists (ABLs), Bills of Material (BOMs), and configuration records for delivered systems.
  • Assist in compiling and updating configuration management documents and data packages for each system, ensuring consistency between the physical hardware, documentation, and inventory systems.
