About The Position

We’re looking for Field Service Engineer Interns who are ready to jumpstart their careers in the power industry. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Power & Controls, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (ABET-accredited preferred)
  • 3.0+ GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% across the continental U.S.
  • Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather, at heights, in confined spaces, and around high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery
  • Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs and enduring extended physical activity
  • Requires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments
  • An academic background or coursework in Power Systems is preferred
  • Familiarity with low, medium, and high voltage systems up to 500kV
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Comfortable reading schematics and technical drawings
  • Enthusiastic, eager to learn, and safety-conscious
  • Ability to work well in fast-paced environments and adapt quickly

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to engineering tools like AutoCAD or MATLAB
  • TWIC card
  • NETA Certification (Level II or higher) in progress
  • An electrician's license or hands-on electrical experience
  • Experience using Doble, PowerDB, or similar field testing software

Responsibilities

  • Assist in inspecting, testing, and commissioning low, medium, and high voltage systems (480V–600kV) across customer sites
  • Help conduct power transformer testing: Doble, TTR, insulation resistance, and more
  • Support relay testing (electromechanical and solid-state) and calibration tasks
  • Aid in cable testing using Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, and DC Hi-Pot methods
  • Help troubleshoot and repair automatic transfer switches under supervision
  • Participate in switchgear and circuit breaker testing to verify functionality
  • Assist in verifying control circuit operations for substation and switchgear systems
  • Support moderate relay calibration and power metering accuracy checks
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and procedures
  • Work with the field service team on project startups, shutdowns, and maintenance events
  • Learn and apply industry safety practices and follow all safety regulations
  • Travel to customer sites and support a variety of electrical testing activities
  • Follow strict safety and PPE usage protocols due to noise, electrical hazards, and elevated work areas
