The Business area Mining is a global leader in supplying equipment and tools, parts, service, digital solutions, and sustainability-driving technologies for the mining and construction industries, with applications including rock drilling, rock cutting, loading and hauling, tunneling, and quarrying. The Apprentice will be located in the Kershaw, South Carolina area, must live in or close to the area, and have reliable transportation to and from job sites. All required onsite transportation will be provided by Sandvik Technicians.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Mechanical aptitude and interest in heavy equipment
  • Basic understanding of any or a combination of: Diesel engines, Hydraulic systems, Mechanical drive systems, Electrical systems and diagnostics
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass mine-site medical, drug, and background requirements
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts if required by mine operations
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical work around heavy equipment
  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States on an indefinite basis without employer sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school, vocational training, or trade certification
  • Experience maintaining: Heavy equipment, Construction equipment, Agricultural equipment, Logging equipment, On-highway diesel trucks, Mining equipment
  • Basic welding or fabrication experience
  • Experience reading service manuals and schematics
  • Familiarity with mobile hydraulic systems
  • Experience with troubleshooting mechanical failures

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and repair basic support of heavy industrial equipment (mining)
  • Work from verbal/written maintenance instructions for routine workshop activities
  • Use a variety of simple trade tools
  • Assist with maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and parts
  • Assigned to specific trade area (e.g. mechanical) and carry out some routine aspects of the trade activity, according to training requirements
  • Learn how to apply basic knowledge of the service technician area, such as mechanics/materials
  • Complete basic reports and/or documents of work completed, as required under supervision
  • Observe how to communicate with the customer, where applicable
  • Collaboration with parts & services and equipment divisions
  • Network and attend training to become qualified technician
