About The Position

Arcadis is seeking an entry-level Geologist or Environmental Scientist to join their team in Hanover, MD. This role involves both field and office work, with up to 80% of the time spent in the field. The position offers opportunities for mentorship and professional growth within the Resilience Environment team, contributing to the improvement of quality of life through sustainable solutions. The role includes assisting Project Managers and Task Managers with environmental site characterization, investigation, and remediation. Fieldwork will involve training in overseeing drilling for soil sampling and groundwater well installation, groundwater sampling, subcontractor oversight, operation and maintenance of remediation systems, and vapor intrusion/soil gas surveys, all while prioritizing health and safety. The position also involves supporting emergency response teams for incidents like train derailments and pipeline releases, which may require unanticipated travel and work outside standard business hours. Travel is estimated at up to 50% during the first two years, reducing to approximately 25% by the third year, with expenses being reimbursable. A valid driver's license is required.

Requirements

Bachelor’s of Science in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related field (i.e., environmental science, physical science).
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Self-motivated.
Exhibit independent thinking.
Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team setting as well as independently and remotely.
Adaptable and creative problem solvers.
Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

Master of Science degree in Geology or closely related field.
Current OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training.

Responsibilities

Assist Project Managers (PMs) and Task Managers (TMs) in planning and executing environmental site characterization, investigation, and remediation tasks.
Oversee drilling for soil sampling and groundwater well installation.
Conduct groundwater sampling.
Provide subcontractor oversight.
Operate and maintain remediation systems.
Perform vapor intrusion/soil gas surveys.
Prepare subcontracts and oversee the work of subcontractors.
Write and prepare technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda.
Conduct field work including soil, groundwater, and/or vapor sampling.
Support Mid-Atlantic and National emergency response teams for incident response recovery (IRR).
Task coordination, data compilation and interpretation, cost estimates, health & safety plan preparation, report writing, regulatory file reviews, proposal writing, project strategy development, schedule and budget management, and establishment of subcontracts.
