About The Position

As the Field Safety Specialist, you will lead Safety training, accountability and compliance. This role involves managing accident reporting and investigation, conducting training, tracking safety data, and coordinating safety audits. You will also implement behavioral-based safety techniques, assist operations with safety incentive programs, and manage the Lead Driver Trainers/Program. A key aspect of this role is being a leader in positive recognition of safe behaviors and continuously identifying areas for improvement within the Safety Department and the Company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of related work experience
  • 5 years experience in environmental health and safety or relate field, and/or experience in the LTL industry
  • Experience and understanding of accepted loss prevention and safety practices
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office( Word, Excel) and typing skills
  • Great communication skills written and verbal

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications (i.e.: CDS, CSS, or other recognized certifications) preferred
  • Current CDL is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Manages accident reporting and investigation for assigned Regions.
  • Travel to visit service centers each week. Most weeks will require 3 nights away from home. Travel some weeks will be up to 4 nights away.
  • Be willing to work during the hours that the Service Centers are operating in a wide range of weather conditions.
  • Comfortable working in an unstructured environment in order to create a safer work environment.
  • Conducts training and education classes for Drivers, Dock Workers and other employees.
  • Tracks and analyzes Safety data.
  • Coordinates joint safety audits with leaders to ensure compliance with company policies, standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Implements behavioral based safety techniques.
  • Assists Operations in implementing and maintaining safety incentive and awareness processes as well as other processes in areas of safety and health.
  • Manages and develops Lead Driver Trainers/ Program.
  • Be a leader in positive recognition of safe behaviors with Safety's support presence in employee meetings, recognition activities and interaction with employees both formal and informal.
  • Continuously identify areas and processes for improvement in the Safety Department and the Company.
