About The Position

The Field Safety Coordinator will observe working conditions on job sites to ensure safe work practices and environments. This role involves taking corrective actions for unsafe conditions, observing workforce behavior for unsafe acts, and reporting observations to management. The coordinator will also assist the site workforce and supervision in safety planning, safety briefs, pre-task planning, and the development of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs). Responsibilities include responding to incidents and accidents, providing emergency aid support, ensuring corrective actions are taken, and assisting in the investigation of safety incidents.

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• 5+ years of construction safety experience
• Ability to meet all physical requirements
• Ability to work at heights in excess of 300 ft.
• Possession of all required tools
• Reliable transportation
• Valid OSHA 500 certificate and experience as an instructor for OSHA 10 and 30-hour courses
• At least 5 years experience working as a safety facilitator or equivalent position OR worked in a supervisory field position and able to illustrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties.
• Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and their application to construction work.
• Ability to learn and apply company and site safety rules.
• Ability to read and properly interpret complex documents including company safety policies, client safety documents, and government requirement documents (OSHA/MSHA).
• Good leadership skills and ability to work under difficult situations, including influencing others and dealing with conflict.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to use problem-solving skills and critical thinking to resolve and identify issues, including safety risks.
• Ability to perform basic computer functions including word processing and spreadsheets.
• Willingness to follow all company directives and safety procedures.
• Ability to work at heights.
• Standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting.
• Talking and hearing to communicate.
• Using arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
• Working at heights, climbing ladders and stairways, working off of platforms and man lifts, and occasionally working out on an open structure using appropriate fall protection.
• Good visual acuity and depth perception.
• Ability to work outside in changing weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
• Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to a hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and leather work boots.

Nice To Haves

• Former experience working with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
• Experience working as a craft worker and/or craft supervisor on an industrial construction project.
• Holds certification (training) in one or all of the following: OSHA 10, OSHA 30, OSHA, confined space (competent person), excavation (competent person), NCCER Field Safety, NCCER Safety Technology, and/or BCSP’s certification

Responsibilities

• Observe the working conditions of the job site to ensure safe work conditions exist.
• Take corrective action when unsafe conditions exist, including immediate correction, isolating and restricting area access, stopping work, and reporting conditions to supervisors with recommended actions.
• Observe the behavior and actions of the site workforce for unsafe acts and take immediate corrective action.
• Report all observations of unsafe conditions and acts verbally and in writing to management.
• Assist the site workforce in planning work with consideration for safety aspects.
• Assist site supervision with safety briefs, pre-task planning, and development of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), including performing, reviewing, and guiding supervisors.
• Respond to incidents and accidents, providing emergency aid support and ensuring all unsafe acts or conditions are corrected.
• Assist in issuing and inspecting personal protection equipment (PPE).
• Assist in performing investigations on safety incidents or accidents.
