About The Position

The Field Safety Coordinator is responsible for leading and supporting Charlotte Mechanical’s safety initiatives across all field operations, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and construction projects. This position promotes a proactive safety culture by ensuring compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and company safety standards while supporting operational excellence. The Field Safety Coordinator works closely with project managers, field supervisors, technicians, subcontractors, and leadership to reduce risk, prevent incidents, and ensure safe and efficient project execution. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • OSHA 30 certification required
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of safety experience in mechanical contracting, HVAC, plumbing, construction, or related field operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, DOT requirements, EPA standards, and construction safety best practices.
  • Experience conducting safety training, incident investigations, and field safety audits.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage employees at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple job sites and projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management/reporting software.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel regularly to project and service locations throughout the Charlotte metro and surrounding areas.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field preferred.
  • OSHA 500/510 or CHST certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain company safety policies, procedures, and programs specific to HVAC, plumbing, mechanical construction, and service operations.
  • Conduct routine jobsite inspections, safety audits, hazard assessments, and behavioral observations to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and coordinate safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing employee safety training programs.
  • Provide field coaching and support to supervisors, foremen, technicians, and subcontractors regarding safe work practices and hazard mitigation.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and other applicable regulations, including fall protection, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, PPE, ladder safety, fleet safety, and refrigerant handling.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, injuries, property damage, and near-miss events; document findings and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation, including training records, inspection reports, incident logs, OSHA reporting, and compliance documentation.
  • Assist in developing site-specific safety plans, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments for projects and service operations.
  • Coordinate and track required employee certifications, licenses, and safety training renewals.
  • Serve as the primary field safety resource for employees and management while fostering a positive, safety-first culture throughout the organization.
  • Participate in project planning meetings and support operational teams in identifying and addressing potential safety concerns before work begins.
  • Support workers’ compensation and return-to-work processes as needed.
  • Promote continuous improvement through safety initiatives, employee engagement, and best practice recommendations.
