About The Position

Our Transmission group is currently looking to add a Field Safety Advisor to the team supporting the Waasigan Transmission Line project, based outside of Thunder Bay, ON. Reporting to the Regional Safety Supervisor, this position provides support to supervisors, foremen and workers in the field and leadership / coordination of the day-to-day safety requirements for the project. This position plays an important role in ensuring that Valard’s safety culture has been established and adhered to in the field. Please Note: this is a field-based position working a schedule of 20 days on / 10 days off; 11 hour days. Camp accommodations are provided.

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary education in a related field
  • 5 years of construction site safety experience
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) Certification
  • Experience with Microsoft office applications
  • Proven experience dealing with client requirements and providing administrative assistance with matters relating to safety
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (a record) for review

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience supporting electrical construction projects
  • CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) certification
  • Demonstrated familiarity with applicable provincial legislations
  • Root cause investigation experience
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered

Responsibilities

  • Be a visible presence and safety resource in the field to ensure a safe work environment for all Valard employees, contractors, and visitors as per the Site Safety Management Plan (SMP)
  • Communicate, coach and assist field staff to ensure that all safety expectations are met
  • Participate in, and assist the supervisors and foreman with, investigation of incidents to determine root cause, and corrective actions
  • Participate in regular meetings with project safety teams to review issues, trends and upcoming conditions or events to ensure safety obligations are carried out as per client agreement and communicated to the Project Manager and Supervisors
  • Review tailboards daily to ensure that hazards are addressed, and a mitigation process is in place; provide feedback to workers to assist them in being compliant
  • Perform observations, inspections, emergency preparedness drills, and review / communicate the findings via safety meetings and postings
  • Facilitate weekly safety meetings, capture minutes and prepare weekly / monthly safety reports
  • Provide support to the supervisors and foreman to ensure that JSAs are developed and reviewed with the crews and available at the work site
  • Apply and reinforce the requirements of Valard's Health, Safety and Environmental Manual across all field activities
  • Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation, and applicable standards and inform Project Manager(s) of any relevant changes
