About The Position

The Vancouver office at Smith + Andersen is currently seeking a Mechanical Field Representative. The Field Representative will specialize in mechanical building services. With meticulous attention to detail, you thrive on bringing projects to life. Through careful review of contract documents, you compare contractors’ work to original contracts to see that projects are built to requirements. Working closely with both internal design team members and contractors, you are a natural born team player who enjoys building and maintaining strong relationships. Highly-motivated with a knack for clear communications, you are a dynamo with deadlines and managing multiple projects of varying sizes. Requirements

  • A C.E.T. or Mechanical contractor with equivalent experience and abilities.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in mechanical design or construction in the building services industry
  • Understanding the applicability of relevant provincial building codes and standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an environment driven by project deadlines.
  • Familiarity with systems such as fire alarm, communication and other specialized electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with systems such as hydronic heating and cooling systems, ventilation systems, fire protection systems and building controls systems. 
  • Familiarity with electrical systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects of varying size and complexity at the same time.
  • Ability to work individually as well as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Review construction document packages by searching for and identifying common constructability issues.
  • Travel to multiple project sites to attend site meetings and review the construction progress on site
  • Generate ongoing project field review reports following company standards
  • Participate in the development and revisions to the construction administrative documents by assisting in producing site instructions and change notices as well as responding to contractor RFI’s.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with contractors.
  • Coordinate site visits with designers, in order to help in their development by relaying practical construction experiences
  • Ensure that sufficient information (ie photos and records) is obtained through the life of the contract to substantiate contractor's progress and final payment certificates. Review and process all contractor payment certificates.
  • Ensure that contractor's work is completed according to plans, standards and specifications prior to approving work and progress payments.
  • Establish clear expectations and collect relevant information from the contractors to assist in closing out building permits
  • Any other tasks assigned by leadership or project managers as required to assist in the success of the firm, as it relates to contract administration.
  • Complete building condition assessments and generate technical due diligence and capital planning reports following company standards.
