About The Position

Our Field Property Claims Representative will be responsible for the investigation, evaluation and settlement of assigned claims involving 1st Party Homeowner and Commercial Property claims. This role is a field-based position and will require travel to loss sites to evaluate the damages. This also includes special investigation activities with an emphasis on investigating possible fraudulent activity. This is a field based position, travel will be required within Central/Eastern Massachusetts, with occasional travel to other areas as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or several years of experience or training that the Company considers sufficiently related; or the equivalent combination of education and such related experience is required
  • 5-7 years of experience handling Property Claims; Commercial Lines experience a plus
  • Ability to read, interpret, and react to documents such as insurance policies, procedure manuals, and legal documents
  • Ability to assemble information, develop opinions, and clearly express decisions using sound reasoning and judgment
  • Ability to write reports and compose correspondence
  • Ability to communicate, in both oral and written formats, in a polite, clear, concise, and accurate way
  • Ability to demonstrate advanced problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced ability to accurately deal with mathematical problems, including geometry (area and volume) and financial areas (such as accuracy in sums, unit costs, and the capacity to read and develop understanding of personal and business finance documents)
  • Ability to effectively deal with a diverse group of individuals and manage varied factual circumstances
  • Ability to organize assigned work
  • Ability to maintain confidentially and data security
  • Ability to maintain a professional image
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency with multi-line insurance policy review and sound organization of both investigation material and work to meet Company customer service standards

  • Ability to perform job functions independently
  • Ability to handle more challenging claims than that of a Field Claims Representative 2 or similar job

Responsibilities

  • Assemble facts, determine coverage, evaluate the amount of loss, and analyze legal liability
  • Make payments in accordance with coverage, damage, and liability determination and perform other functions or duties to properly adjust the loss
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of insurance coverage by studying insurance policies, endorsements, and forms
  • Demonstrate proficient knowledge of claims handling procedures and skills in claim negotiations and settlements
  • Deliver a high level of customer service to our agents, insureds, and others
  • Meet with people involved with claims, frequently outside of our office environment
  • Obtain and maintain appropriate adjuster’s license(s) as required
  • Drive an automobile, possess a valid driver license, and maintain a driving record consistent with the Company’s underwriting guidelines for coverage
  • Complete relevant continuing education programs as required
  • Maintain punctual attendance according to an assigned work schedule at a Company approved work location
  • Handle claim activities and investigations by phone and mail, but principally through onsite investigations, as warranted
  • Use technology-based information for reference, enter information into computer systems, and apply specialized skills, including but not limited to property estimating, auto estimating, and use of computer-based programs as tools. This includes the ability to complete these activities on-site in order to effectuate prompt claim settlements
  • Work on complex claims as assigned
  • Utilize experience to devise alternative approaches to providing service, dependent upon the circumstances
  • Respond effectively to service needs of agents, insureds, and others
  • Regularly demonstrate, through experience, education and example, superior skills and efforts to reach the best results of assigned work
