This role involves the day-to-day operations and maintenance of natural gas compressor stations and gathering systems.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Three years of experience in valve maintenance, leak survey of natural gas pipelines, mechanical aptitude, miss-dig or equivalent technical education
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to function autonomously
  • Thorough knowledge of O&M manual
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or participate in work crews
  • Demonstrated ability to special projects
  • Use experience to recommend solutions to operational problems
  • Recommend improvements for operational efficiency
  • High integrity and self-motivated
  • Excellent vehicle driving record
  • Basic computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Operating natural gas pipeline associated equipment including reciprocating natural gas compressors, dehydrators, fluid separating equipment, valves, and gas/liquid measurement equipment.
  • Adjusting controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges.
  • Starting up and shutting down equipment.
  • Visually inspecting equipment and controls at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.
  • De-pressuring equipment and pipelines.
  • Purging/pressurizing equipment and pipelines.
  • Performing pipeline patrols.
  • Performing gas leakage surveys.
  • Locating and marking underground pipelines.
  • Operating valves.
  • Implementing safe work practices and a proactive safety culture while ensuring safety for the employee, the public, and the environment at all times.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance and record keeping requirements are met and continually monitored, including regulations from the Department of Transportation, Railroad Commission, and Operator Qualification Plans.
  • Reading, monitoring, and recording various conditions such as pressures, temperatures, hours of operation, fuel consumed, water levels, and monitoring gauges.
  • Performing minor maintenance on equipment including reciprocating natural gas compressors, dehydrators, fluid separating equipment, and valves.
  • Monitoring and removing and replacing filters, oil, chemicals, and other lubricating fluids as needed.
  • Removing and replacing gaskets, valves, and installing plugs as necessary.
  • Changing gauges and cleaning out sight glasses as necessary.
  • Maintaining sites in clean condition including picking up trash, taking out trash, controlling weeds, and minor painting.
  • Changing out suction/discharge valves on compressors, and changing out light bulbs or fuses.
  • Performing pigging operations.
  • Continually meeting the demands and improving upon the needs of our customers.
  • Establishing and maintaining a near perfect driving record.
  • Demonstrating sound economic thinking skills.
  • Directing and supervising contract labor involved in pipeline maintenance activities.
  • Collaborating with direct supervisor on new and improved ideas associated with an always changing pipeline system.
  • Performing other duties and special projects as may be assigned by supervisor.
  • Providing incident command support to emergency responders.
  • Leading mock and table top exercises.
  • Maintaining OQ qualification of all tasks.
  • Performing damage prevention activities and documentation.
  • Recommending solutions to operations issues.
  • Interacting with contractors and customers both internal and external.
