About The Position

The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) is seeking a detail-oriented, part-time Field Enumerator to support their organization. This role involves collecting agricultural data on behalf of the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). NASDA is an agriculture nonprofit that values its community and employees, offering a positive work environment and opportunities for career growth. The Field Enumerator plays a crucial role in providing reliable statistics and information to farmers, ranchers, and rural communities. This position requires interacting with agricultural producers, conducting interviews in person or by phone, and sometimes traveling to fields for crop counts. Accurate record-keeping of interviews, crop counts, mileage, and hours worked is essential. The role is performed from a residence with an operable telephone and requires a reliable personal vehicle for travel.

Requirements

  • Ability to positively represent NASDA and the benefits of enumerators in all survey actions.
  • Ability to make crop counts in designated fields.
  • Ability to maintain a reliable personal vehicle.
  • Ability to conduct interviews in person or by telephone with farm operators and other individuals.
  • Knowledge about computers or iPads.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate good time management in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated.

  • Must pass a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Interview farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural businesses either in person or on the phone.
  • Travel to designated fields to perform crop counts.
  • Maintain and deliver detailed and legible records of interviews, crop counts, mileage, expenditures, and hours worked.
  • Conduct enumerator work from a residence with an operable telephone free from distractions.
  • Maintain a personal vehicle to be ready to travel for field enumerator duties.
