About The Position

This is a skilled, hands-on role focused on operating specialized equipment to maintain sewer lines, catch basins, manholes, and inlets. The Field Operator II is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the sewer infrastructure, which is essential for protecting public health and city infrastructure. The role is physically demanding and involves working under the direction of the Field Operations Supervisor.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to perform heavy, strenuous, and physically demanding work
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with coworkers and the public
Knowledge of sewer cleaning equipment, hydro excavation, and related work processes
Proficient with work order management and GIS software, Windows/iOS platforms
Ability to follow safety procedures and operate in confined spaces using required safety apparatus
Valid Indiana Driver's License
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with "B" endorsement (Beginners Permit at hire; regular CDL required within 180 days; tanker "N" endorsement for existing employees)
Certified Competent Person: Confined Space (must obtain within 90 days of start date)

Responsibilities

Operate vacuum and jet flusher trucks, hydro excavation equipment, and root control devices to maintain sewer systems.
Prepare daily reports on completed work, repairs needed, and any irregularities observed.
Perform minor maintenance, clean and maintain trucks and equipment, and work safely with chemicals.
Oversee and train Field Operator I employees, ensuring proper workflow and safety compliance.
Collaborate with other City staff to resolve project issues and maintain operational efficiency.
Operate vacuum, jet flusher, and hydro excavation equipment to clean and maintain sewer lines, catch basins, manholes, and inlets.
Assist with root and grease control.
Ensure sewer infrastructure operates safely and efficiently.
